Running a business in London is not an easy feat. I’ve seen it first-hand with one of my closest friends who owns a small business and is experiencing financial difficulties.
As a business owner like him, I know you want clear guidance and reassurance that you’re not facing insolvency alone. So, together with my Wunderlust London team, we decided to look for reliable insolvency lawyers in London.
Our goal is simple. We want to connect you with professionals who can help you protect your business and guide you towards the best resolution.
Read on to see the legal professionals who can help you with your business’s finances.
How much do insolvency lawyers charge in London?
Insolvency lawyers charge from £5,000 to 20,000, depending on the assets involved and the complexity of the case itself. The work associated with this cost includes the hours needed to do the liquidation. You also need to consider VAT on the final cost.
How we chose the best insolvency lawyers in London
Experience: We chose insolvency lawyers with years of experience in handling insolvency and restructuring cases.
Services Offered: Not all businesses face the same challenges. That’s why we picked law firms with services such as liquidation, debt restructuring, and company voluntary arrangements (CVAs).
Pricing: We understand that legal fees can be a huge concern, so we chose firms with flexible payment methods and are transparent about their costs.
Customer Service: We considered client feedback and reviews regarding how approachable and supportive these lawyers are.
1. Antony Batty & Co

Address: Gray’s Inn, 3 Field Court
Contact Details: +442080880633, [email protected]
Operating Hours: Monday – Friday: 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM
Antony Batty & Co is a law firm with 25 years of experience, which is impressive in itself.
We really like their strong team of solicitors. Mind you, all of them are licensed insolvency practitioners, which makes them highly specialised.
They aren’t like other full-service law firms that offer a range of legal services. Instead, they focus on company turnarounds, liquidations, and insolvency matters. For us, this specialisation matters because it shows they’ve honed their expertise in this area.
Their previous cases include handling a company’s Members’ Voluntary Liquidations (MVL). This client said that the firm was recommended by his accountant and that he didn’t regret choosing Antony Batty. The solicitors are professional and have fair fees.
Another client also used the firm’s assistance in closing their UK branch, noting that the service was reliable. Another person mentioned that the firm offers a free initial consultation, which added points for us.
In terms of pricing, they charge £375 per hour, which we think is reasonable enough given their expertise.
Professional and comprehensive guidance
“Very professional, comprehensive guidance to resolve a situation for a family friend who is struggling with a business insolvency situation.
James Stares’s approach and clear, detailed information were so helpful to steer through processes that seem complex to a layperson. This was just an initial call and no charge!
I would highly recommend this firm and James. Clearly, your client care professionalism is a high priority! Thank you, James.
Much appreciated”

Wonderful hands-on approach
“We are a thriving accounting practice based in central London.
Great news on the merger between B&C Associates and Antony Batty & Co ( ABC). We know Nitin and team very well and have already had smooth dealings with Antony’s team. Great news for our clients who are struggling and know that ABC will be professional with a wonderful hands-on approach.
We would recommend ABC to all professional intermediaries and anyone seeking insolvency advice.”

2. Hudson Weir Insolvency Practitioners

Address: 58 Leman St
Contact Details: +442070996086, [email protected]
Operating Hours: Monday – Friday: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Hudson Weir Insolvency Practitioners is a well-experienced law firm, specialising in personal and company debt. The company’s 20 years of experience earned clients’ trust, especially in liquidating assets.
One of their top services is winding up. A client used this service and shared that the firm helped his company distribute and manage the remaining assets. He particularly thanked Olena as his point of contact for being responsive and professional.
Many clients also mentioned their solicitor, Manan. One said that Manan clearly explained every step in finalising the liquidation process of his company. We believe that this approach is important to reduce stress on the client’s end.
We also appreciate the firm’s free one-hour consultation. This proves that they’re not just out there to collect money from people but to really give them helpful advice regarding finances.
It’s also worth highlighting that this firm is composed of insolvency practitioners and accountants. This allows them to give an accurate financial assessment to clients.
If there’s one thing that might not look so good about this firm, it’s their communication. Some clients report that it takes time for them to respond, which is not ideal if you have urgent matters.
High level of professionalism
“I used Hudson Weir services recently to liquidate my company. It has been the most agréable experience. I dealt primarily with Manan Momaya and his team. Manan showed a high level of professionalism and experience. He is competent, efficient and explained clearly every step to finalise the process.
If you need peace and mind and excellent service, I recommend you contact them.”

Very professional
“Hudson Weir has recently liquidated two of my companies. I must say they are very professional; nothing was too much trouble. I must mention two individuals who stood out for me, firstly Theuns Ehlers, and secondly Manan Momaya. I would not hesitate to recommend Hudson Weir.”

3. AABRS Insolvency Practitioners

Address: Park Rd
Contact Details: +442084443400
Operating Hours: Monday – Friday: 8:00 AM – 8:30 PM
AABRS is a well-established firm specialising in insolvency services. They have personal and corporate insolvency specialists, which means they can handle individual bankruptcy cases and complex company liquidations.
We really like their dual expertise – personal and corporate insolvency. This allows them to give comprehensive support. Clients don’t have to look elsewhere in case you need business restructuring or voluntary arrangements, as AABRS already has it.
Note that they also have a free initial consultation. This is perfect for individuals or business owners who want to see their options or situation before committing. This is a risk-free way to see if the firm fits you or not.
Aside from that, their previous clients are also satisfied with their services. A widow said that following her husband’s death, she faced liquidation issues from several companies. AABRS helped her liquidate all of it – comes with patient and kind solicitors.
Another client said that they’ve used the firm to liquidate their company, and it’s a smooth process. The team outlined the process clearly and provided them with information on how long it would take. This is important to set the right expectations.
However, there’s a complaint regarding the firm’s poor communication, such as no specific contact person and delayed email responses.
Helpful, speedy, and accurate advice
“I have spoken with AABRS about various insolvency cases and found each time their advice was helpful, speedy and accurate.”
-Mr. Gary Brown, Google Review
Nice people and a step-by-step process
“James and his team guided me with insights and the most calming and step-by-step practical advice from the first phone call. It’s likely you’ll be in a very stressful place when you need to contact a firm like this. Make sure it’s these guys if you do; they make what was overwhelming, a step-by-step, logical and clear process. Thoroughly nice people”

4. Francis Wilks & Jones

Address: 6 Coldbath Square
Contact Details: +442078410390
Operating Hours: Monday – Friday: 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM
Francis Wilks & Jones is a 23-year-old law firm helping clients with their financial matters. They’re well-known for their debt-recovery and bankruptcy services, but they also cater to insolvency issues.
They might just be focused on financial issues, but the good thing is that they cater to personal and commercial liquidation. It’s because there aren’t many law firms that accept both personal and business concerns. So it’s a good thing that they have both.
What we like is that they have a very hands-on co-founding partner, Tim. A client highlighted Tim’s extensive knowledge and skills in handling his insolvency case. He said that insolvency law is pretty complicated, but Tim explains everything really well.
Also, another client mentioned the team’s insolvency practitioners, named Douglas and Andrew. She said that of all the firms she reached out to, only those solicitors gave empathetic and personal advice. Turns out, she received the outcome she hoped for.
However, some clients aren’t happy with how the staff responds to follow-ups. A few said that emails are delayed and there’s very little communication.
Invaluable expertise and support
“Douglas and Andrew provided invaluable expertise and support with an insolvency case. It was a very worrying time, and they gave succinct and expert advice in an empathetic manner.
Having called a few firms to discuss my case, Douglas’ initial response was by far the most personal and knowledgeable. Others felt like I was just another case on a conveyor belt of cases – concerned more about me signing their terms than having an initial conversation to understand the process. We got the best outcome, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them.”
-Ms. Susan Gregory, Google Review
Utmost professionalism
“Victoria and Carly could not have been more professional in representing in a possible insolvency caseIfif this were to have gone forward, this would have had a massive impact on the staff I have working for the company that I am a director of to date. A lot of jobs could have been lost.
I can not thank them both enough for the help and utmost professionalism in not just helping me, but as mentioned, all the staff who are still employed at this present date.”

5. Summit Law LLP

Address: 44 Southampton Buildings
Contact Details: +442074673980, [email protected]
Operating Hours: Monday – Friday: 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM
Summit Law LLP is a London-based law firm, but its services extend far beyond the city. They serve clients from the UK and abroad with business-related financial concerns.
First things first, we like that they have a great list of services for their national and international clients. They have commercial litigation, debt recovery, and cross-border insolvency services.
A client commended Alice Court for being his solicitor when he dealt with an insolvency issue in his business. He said that from their first online meeting to the proceedings, Alice gave the support and empathy he needed.
Meanwhile, another client shared that his solicitor, Morgan, has that analytic thinking that helped his case a lot. He said that Morgan practically defined the area of risk and mitigated whatever she could, giving a favourable outcome.
Another thing we love about this company is that they have multilingual solicitors. That means they can assist clients from different backgrounds, making their services more accessible to non-native English speakers.
Downsides? They have a very limited solicitors on board. This can affect how many clients they can accept, especially since they have an international client base as well.
Reassuring solicitor
“I was fortunate enough to be represented by Alice Court in a recent case. Alice is exactly who you want on your side in insolvency-related matters; it was abundantly clear from the moment we first spoke on the phone that I had made the correct choice in appointing Summit Law. Alice was able to quickly comprehend my situation and advise on a strategy, cutting through months of ongoing uncertainty and diligently handling a sensitive process with apparent ease.”
-Mr. Tom, Google Review
Excellent empathy
“Alice Court has done an outstanding job for us. Very professional and clearly an expert in her area of expertise: liquidation and bankruptcy. Not only has she helped massively, but she has also been refreshingly sympathetic and kind to our issues by really getting to know our circumstances and having excellent empathy. Would highly recommend her along with the rest of Summit Law.”
