The 5 best mediation lawyers in London to help settle your case

My friend told me about the relationship problem she’s going through – very personal, and I could tell it was really stressing her out. I said she didn’t just need a lawyer, she needed someone kind, patient, and who could help find a fair solution.

I wanted to help, so I reached out to my Wunderlust team and started doing some research for her. We read reviews and asked around to filter the legal professionals who could really help.

After all that, we found the best mediation lawyers in London. If you or someone you know needs this service, check out this list and see which law firms can help you settle problems without the need for a court.

How much does a mediation lawyer charge in London?

A  mediation lawyer in London charges from £120 to £190 per hour for a mediation session. Some law firms offer packages on specific cases, like divorce with mediation and legal separation. Other expenses might include VAT and drafting fees for legal documents.

How we chose the best mediation lawyers in London

  • Experience: We looked for mediation attorneys with years of experience handling different disputes, from family issues to business matters.
  • Communication and Negotiation skills: We prefer mediators who listen well and speak clearly so they can guide both parties to a fair resolution. We asked previous clients to confirm this.
  • Pricing: We aim to have lawyers who have reasonable and transparent fees, so you know exactly how much you need to prepare.
  • Availability: We prioritised lawyers who are reachable and can work around our schedule.

Kadan Hassan is a firm focused on family matters, especially divorce. The owner and solicitor, Kadan, has over 15 years of experience in resolving conflicts among families.

Kadan specifically caters to asset division, child custody, and the divorce process.

A couple of clients mentioned that Kadan is extremely helpful throughout their divorce process. Her calming and empathetic approach made everything as stress-free as possible.

On top of a reliable service, there are a few standout features that make this firm even more client-friendly. For instance, it offers online sessions for mediation, which is helpful for those who are short on time and those wanting an initial consultation from home.

Another notable strength is their weekend mediation online option. This highlights their flexibility and commitment to serving clients.

The last thing we appreciate is that they have affordable rates. Their pricing ranges from $99 to $150, which is reasonable.

However, the firm is a bit short-staffed. They don’t have many solicitors on board, so if you want Kadan to be your mediator, be sure to book as fast as you can.

Pros

  • Over 15 years of experience in family matters
  • Expert in mediating divorce
  • Offers online mediation sessions, including weekends
  • Affordable rates
  • Timely service
  • Empathetic and supportive

Cons

  • Small team
  • Only caters to family issues

Helpful, friendly, and patient

“I have had two online sessions for mediation with Kadan, for which I have been grateful to have contacted her for my mediation matters.  I have found Kadan to be very helpful, friendly and patient.  She has explained the process of mediation to me in a clear manner and has given me great advice for possible alternatives. I highly recommend Kadan!”

– Ms. Christin Sim, Google Review

Empathetic team

“I can’t recommend this service enough! Kadan and her team were incredibly empathetic, understanding my situation and guiding me through every step with care. Kadan’s support not only helped me find a fair resolution but also saved me significant costs and stress from going to court and a long legal battle. I would certainly recommend your services and thank you again.”

The Family Mediation Group is a law firm with negotiation, consultancy, and mediation services. They accept individuals, families, and businesses needing assistance in handling disputes.

We like that they handle a wide range of family matters like divorce, financial matters, and child arrangements. A client shared that Steve of the Family Mediation Group helped him and his ex arrive at protocols to better co-parent their child.

Dominic, one of the firm’s family mediation solicitors, stood out to us. Clients commended him for being patient and unbiased to both parties throughout the process, removing any tension that can slow down the mediation.

The company also uses the PACIFICAT© methodology in resolving disputes. This method actually has nine key questions, which guide negotiators through each negotiation phase.

We personally like this approach because it’s universally known and used to resolve workplace disputes to high-stakes issues, and many have proven that it’s really working.

One thing to note, though, is that booking online (on their site) can be tricky if you’re aiming for services other than family mediation. The booking form only shows family mediation, that’s all.

They’re in high demand, so booking might be tough if you want them.

Pros

  • Caters to individuals, families, and even businesses
  • Specialist in family matters
  • Positive client feedback
  • Fair and empathetic approach
  • Uses the PACIFICAT© approach

Cons

  • Online booking limitations
    High demand
    Don’t have an online consultation

Very helpful and positive

“Dominic was very helpful and able to explain and inform in a positive, non-condescending way. He was always contactable and would work late and early to accommodate when I could talk. He was calm, considerate and happy to advise – he definitely went above and beyond.”

– Ms. Leanne Sutton, Google Review

Great communication skills

“Outstanding service provided by Dominic. I would highly recommend him. Very professional, patient and understanding. Great communication skills and very supportive, which made me feel at ease. If I could give Dominic 10 stars, I would, as he is a great Solicitorwhot deserves more than 5 stars !”

The UK Mediation Service Group is a well-established firm offering four services. They can handle divorce, child, inheritance disputes, and intergenerational contact mediation.

Their services might be very limited to family issues, but for us, we like that they’re more specialised and focused on such closely-related issues. More focus means quality service for clients.

In fact, we think that this is also the reason why most of their clients are satisfied with their service. For instance, a client praised their mediator, Joanne, for how she respectfully treated the couple as they wanted to end their marriage.

Another client gave another mediator, Derek, the spotlight and said that he was able to calm both parties in such an emotional situation. In sensitive situations like this, we want a patient and understanding mediator, and this firm obviously has that.

We also asked about their pricing, and for us, their MIAM (worth $99) is very fair. Note that it already includes signed C100 as per request. Meanwhile, their mediation session is priced at $135 per person for 1 hour.

However, this is where it gets a bit expensive. If you’re going to deal with financial settlement agreements regarding your family issue, you need to pay another $99 per person to secure the Memorandum of Understanding and Open Financial Statements.

Pros

  • Specialised focus on family issues
  • Fair and clear pricing
  • Respectful mediators
  • Good communication skills of mediators

Cons

  • Limited services
  • Extra charges for financial settlements

Kind, reassuring, and efficient service

“We would highly recommend Derek and his team for the calm, kind, reassuring and efficient service which took all the fear out of this process. We very much appreciate the expertise and support of our mediator, Joanne, who understood our wish for a fair and respectful end to our marriage. Thank you both so much for your guidance and help in finalising an agreement which allows us both to move on in a positive way.”

– Mr. S Parker, Google Review

Professional and with assurance

“I contacted TLMS for assistance and to find a mediation service. I had a reply very shortly after asking my question. Every call was followed by thorough professionalism and assurance. The service can’t be faulted. Thank you, Derek. Very happy to recommend you and the business.”

Mortlake Law & Mediation is a reputable firm headed by Richard Buxton, a family lawyer and a civil and commercial mediator. His expertise in family law and mediation became his inspiration in building Mortlake Law in 2012.

Given that he’s a family lawyer, most os his mediation services revolve around this area. He caters to divorce, children, and even financial agreements between couples, which is convenient for those looking for these services in one place.

Most of his clients are divorced couples. One client said that having Richard as mediator on their separation is a breath of fresh air in the middle of turmoil. The client also highlighted that their divorce was finalised in just 6 months.

The firm also caters to small issues such as car parking fines and more serious ones like property disputes. A client said that Richard was able to solve her property dispute very calmly, putting the stress out.

However, we found the firm’s pricing a bit higher than the others. For instance, the first initial consultation costs £200 per hour, and drafting of separation agreements itself is £750.

Although the first 15 minutes of consultation are free, we still find it a bit expensive.

Pros

  • Led by an experienced family lawyer
  • Strong focus on family law
  • Also caters to commercial mediation
  • Handles both minor and major disputes
  • Calm and reassuring
  • Professional and efficient mediator
  • Free 15-minutes of consultation
  • Offers online consultation

Cons

  • May be a bit expensive for some

Knowledgeable and professional

“I can’t praise Richard enough. He is not just incredibly knowledgeable and professional, he really listens to you and genuinely wants to help.

My case was related to a property dispute, and before I met Richard, I had no hope my situation would ever be resolved.

His calm and kind manner made this very stressful situation much more bearable, and a resolution was reached so much quicker than I could have ever expected. I honestly cannot thank him enough for his help.”

– Andrea Ribeiro, Google Review

Kind and attentive solicitor

“Richard has provided my family with legal advice for a number of years, including Wills, Divorce, Child Custody, and even Car Parking Fines. During difficult times, it really helps to have a kind, attentive solicitor to put your mind at rest. Richard has always gone the extra mile, not only to get the job done, but also to stays in regular contact to keep you updated on progress so you do not worry unnecessarily. I highly recommend Mortlake Law.”

OTS Solicitors is a well-established and full-service law firm with a wide range of services. From landlord and tenant disputes to family law, they handle all kinds of issues.

First things first, we like that they have a strong team, particularly those dedicated lawyers. They have solicitors, senior solicitors, and even a family and immigration barrister.

One highly praised solicitor is Behzad, with one client sharing that she got her divorce and financial issues settled through Behzad’s assistance. The client praised the solicitor for drafting accurate and well-structured legal documents she needed.

The firm is also an expert in handling landlord and tenant disputes. Many of the clients I talked to praised solicitor Aisha for being consistent and having the skills and practical legal advice that resolved tenancy disputes.

However, since they’re a full-service law firm, expect that they have lots of clients as well. They handle business immigration and commercial law, so they might be preoccupied.

Also, a few clients note that the fees are expensive. For instance, a client claimed that he’s been charged £300 for a tenant dispute.

Pros

  • Well-established full-service law firm
  • Internationally recognised law firm
  • Strong, well-rounded team
  • Expertise in family law
  • Efficient and professional solicitors
  • Caters to simple and complex cases

Cons

  • Limited availability
  • Higher fees

Very professional team

“I am happy to review this law firm. OTS has been with me in complicated situations, from handling my pre-settle status and divorce to my settled status. I had no issues at any point; they have always been helpful, and the response time is always within a reasonable time. It is a very professional team, and I have used them for three significant events. I will happily go back and have them deal with my naturalisation application. To everyone on the OTS team, thank you. Dhaya, thank you for the support in the latest application.”

– Mr. Luis Alberto Alarcon Aulestia, Google Review

Supportive and great service

“After coming out of a terrible marriage, I needed to get my financial break from my ex. I came across OTS Solicitors and spoke to a solicitor named Sharmin Behza,d who supported me throughout the process. Whaseemedms like a never-ending process, she was able to give me reassurance and guidance on what was happening every step of the way. I am so happy that I came across her firm and would strongly recommend her to anyone who’s looking to get their finances sorted after the divorce. Thank you very much ,Behzad.”
