The 5 best courses for public speaking training in London to overcome stage fright

Stage fright is no joke. I still remember the first time I had to speak in front of a crowd. Even imagining that all my audiences are naked didn’t help. My voice cracked on the first sentence, and I could hear my heart pounding in my ears.

But here’s the thing: stage fright isn’t a permanent condition but a skill gap waiting to be filled. With the right training, even the most nervous individuals can become confident and engaging public speakers.

That’s why I’m sharing London’s best public speaking training providers so you can skip the trial-by-fire and go straight to owning the stage.

How much does public speaking training cost in London?

Public speaking training in London typically costs around £15 per hour for online tutoring and £85 per hour for in-person coaching. Some courses last up to five days and cost over £5,000.

How I chose the best public speaking training in London

Quality of service: I opted for training providers that receive positive remarks about their courses and trainers, both online and in the interviews I conducted.

Range of services: Most training providers on this list offer a range of helpful courses to improve people’s public speaking skills.

Student engagement: I searched for training providers that provide engaging and interactive in-person courses.

Assessment and Feedback: I picked training providers with trainers who provide fair, reflective, and constructive criticism.

One of Presence Training’s advantages is that they offer public speaking courses at various levels, including Foundation 1 and 2 courses.

What’s great about these Foundation courses is that they help students become well-rounded, confident, and adaptable speakers. Foundation 1 helps you feel calm, authentic, and impactful. Meanwhile, Foundation 2 hones your presentation skills.

Many people I spoke to told me that the trainers are skilled in teaching nerve handling. The relaxation techniques paid off when they presented in front of a crowd.

If you’re busy and have no time to attend in-person classes, I recommend their 1:1 online public speaking coaching. What’s great about this is that the person who’ll train you is one of their senior trainers. That’s decades of knowledge being passed on to you!

However, if you love to be in a group while learning, they’re not the ideal training providers for you. During our conversation, their staff member told me that they offer limited group training sessions.

  • Conscious leadership consultation
  • Proficient in teaching how to manage nerves
  • Proficient in explaining the science behind public speaking

Cons

    Absolutely worth attending

“Really enjoyed the Foundation one course taught by Daniel. He managed to make everyone feel comfortable and seen, and create a trusting, safe space where one could be open. The course is engaging, challenging and very different to any other public speaking course I’ve done before – in a good way. While I had been pretty good with public speaking before attending, I left feeling like I have the right tools to develop the skills of a confident and *authentic* public speaker. This course is absolutely worth attending. Thank you, Daniel!”

    A life-changing experience

“As a result of this course, I’m better prepared to deliver messages to my audience and feel more confident. I really enjoyed the interactive nature of the training, the safe space, the life practice and the feedback. The room was a little on the hot side, despite the air-conditioning, but it was one of the hottest days of the year. Before signing up, I feared the amount of exposure to challenging situations. I was really relieved that we were eased in gently. This was a life changing experience. Thank you so much!!!”

The Art of Training and Public Speaking’s hands-on approach is well-loved by many of its trainees. Many of those I talked to said they were able to instantly demonstrate the things they just learned minutes ago, thanks to the approach.

The trainers also stood out for being really friendly and professional. They actively engage with every participant and have a great humour that always makes trainees laugh.

Additionally, the constructive feedback the trainer provides is helpful to fast-track improvement. With that kind of trainer, it’s easy to know exactly what you should do to improve.

For public speaking, I found their two-day professional public speaking course really good. It focuses on improving the trainees’ delivery, speech structure, and ability to connect with the audience.

Many people struggle with these things, especially connecting to the crowd, so it’s great that the course focuses on them.

That said, most of their training sessions are always for groups with limited availability for 1-on-1 sessions.

    Pros

    • Friendly trainer
    • Constructive feedback
    • Well-structured courses
    • Professional public speaking course
    • Offers trainer courses
    • Better presentation course
    • In-house and online training
    • Customised training

    Cons

    • Limited 1:1 training

      Well-structured, engaging, and highly practical

“The training was exceptionally well-structured, engaging, and highly practical. From the start, Michael (the facilitator) created a supportive and encouraging environment that helped build confidence and openness among participants. The communication strategies covered were incredibly useful, not only for public speaking but also for everyday professional interactions. I left the training feeling more confident, articulate, and equipped to connect with different audiences. I highly recommend this training to anyone looking to enhance their communication and public speaking skills, whether you’re presenting to a team, speaking at a conference, or navigating high-stakes conversations.”

      -Azhar Aslam, Google Review

I left the session feeling empowered

“I highly recommend Michael’s two-day public speaking session for anyone looking to refine their speaking skills. From the start, the program immerses you in practical activities that not only allow for self-evaluation but also provide the opportunity to receive constructive feedback from Michael, an exceptionally engaging and inspiring speaker. His techniques for structuring speeches have fundamentally changed how I approach public speaking. The transformation in my confidence and ability to captivate an audience was noticeable. I left the session feeling empowered, ready to tackle any presentation or public speaking challenge. Thank you Michael.”

The Speaking Adventures has been providing quality public speaking training for over two decades. Their continuous success since they started until now is what drove me to include them on this list.

They’re particularly good at helping trainees connect with the crowd. They encourage trainees to engage with the crowd through interactive communication, including asking questions.

Their two-day in-person group public speaking training is helpful for those who want a supportive atmosphere while learning. Their group training normally consists of four to ten trainees, more than enough to have people who motivate you.

Most of the people I interviewed shared how empathetic their trainer was throughout the training. This attitude is what most of us hope for from our trainer, especially when we badly suck.

Nevertheless, they offer relatively limited training compared to most competitors. It’s not a problem, though, if your only purpose is to improve your public speaking skills.

      Pros

      • Over 23 years in business
      • Empathetic trainer
      • Supportive group atmosphere
      • Constructive feedback
      • 1:1 public speaking coaching
      • Group public speaking training
      • Proficient in teaching how to connect with the crowd

      Cons

      • Limited service

        Highly recommend

“I had my first Focusing session with Millie in February 2024. The experience — new to me — was extremely moving and transformative. After gently encouraging me to set aside heady questions in order to listen to my own body, Millie’s mirroring attention helped open up new levels of awareness on multiple levels. Her calm, engaged presence led me to deep connections among body pain, a tight solar plexus, and the desire to speak and act with greater power and freedom. Millie listens to and engages with you as you are. A speaking adventure indeed! Highly recommend”

        -Julian Bourg, Google Review

        Thanks for everything!

“I took a two-day course with Millie on public speaking techniques (with a particular focus on how to connect with the audience). Millie creates a warm and welcoming learning environment where I immediately felt at ease. She is very professional and I’m under the impression that the techniques she teaches are both theoretically grounded and tried in practice. I work as an university researcher and frequently have to present my work in public. The things I learned through Millie’s workshop help me to be more calm and (I believe) bring across a clearer message. I’m very glad that I had the opportunity to be working with Millie and can fully recommend her workshop. Thanks for everything!”

The School of Connection’s free video course helped me a lot in determining whether they deserve a spot on this list. The three-part video course even includes simple yet helpful tips on how to be confident in what you say.

They offer Level 1 and 2 public speaking courses that aim to help trainees overcome stage fright and gain confidence. The great thing about their public courses is that they are suitable for both total beginners and those with decent experience.

Additionally, if you’re too busy during weekdays to attend training, you can enrol in their weekend in-person group training. The training is an immersive, condensed version of their month-long courses.

I also love that they provide trainees a safe space to express themselves without fear of being judged.

However, I advise enrolling in a course as soon as you can, as most of their courses are often fully booked.

        Pros

          Give it a go!

“I just finished the four week level 1 course and can’t speak highly enough of this course. It teaches a very different approach to public speaking based around letting go of trying to project a certain image of yourself and instead leaning much more into being your authentic self. There are plenty of opportunities to speak in front of a group, it’s a super safe environment to make mistakes and get comfortable speaking while nervous and I saw so many in our group make significant progress in their speaking (and overall) confidence in such a short space of time. Rupal was our trainer and she’s fantastic. Very personable, brilliant at explaining things and will push you out of your comfort zone in a supportive way. Thoroughly recommend – give it a go!”

          -Steven Dillon, Google Review

          Amazing trainer

“I had a great experience on the Level 1 Public Speaking weekend intensive course with Rupal at the School of Connection. The course provided a safe space to practise different technical aspects of public speaking as well as focusing on some of the more psychological aspects that aren’t covered as much usually. It was really an opportunity to push myself out of my comfort zone and to help me come out of my shell. Since the course, I’ve had feedback and compliments about my speaking at work and I feel much more confident about it. Rupal was an amazing trainer – would highly recommend!”

I was very impressed with London Speech Workshop’s extensive 1:1 training courses. They offer a total of nine courses, including courses for effective communication, powerful storytelling, and more.

Aside from that, I deeply appreciate their transparency about their course prices. It helped a lot in comparing them to other training providers and determining whether they should be on this list.

I found the prices pretty similar to what other training centres offer. And according to many trainees, the prices are reasonable for the quality of training they receive.

Another helpful feature for me is their taster session. The hour-long 1:1 session will allow you to experience their tools and determine your strengths and weaknesses. It’s a great start to know whether their courses are suitable for you.

What I love most is that they offer discounts. They offer a 5% discount on any course when you enrol right away after the taster session. They also provide a 10% student discount.

However, they mostly offer online courses, so they might not be the ideal trainers for you if you want in-person training.

          Pros

          • Over 17 years in business
          • Extensive 1:1 training
          • Proficient in teaching accent softening
          • Proficient in teaching pronunciation and intonation
          • In-house training
          • Helpful taster session
          • Offers discounts
          • Transparent pricing

          Cons

          • Limited in-person training

The experience was a lot of fun

“I host a podcast and after listening to myself in the editing process I thought I should get a speech coach. Google led me to London Speech Workshop and I signed up for 10 sessions with Becky Hayman. The experience was a lot of fun and the process was very effective. Becky was able to also contextualize the lessons in a way that helped me with my business beyond the podcast. For example with sales and leadership. I would highly recommend London Speech Workshop and of course Becky Hayman to anyone who might want to give the best impression when pitching to investors, or presenting at a board meeting, or giving a keynote speech—you get the idea.”

            -David Lovejoy, Google Review

All sessions are very well thought through

“I had 10 week session with my Tutor Sam at the London Speech Workshop, and it was incredible! I can see the huge improvement on both pronunciation and intonation, and also the sessions with Sam helped me develop my confidence in public speaking. I never felt or even expected this much improvement from anywhere else, it’s focusing on individual problems, and provide tailored coaching for better impact. All sessions are very well thought through, fun, and beautiful coaching rooms at prime locations add extra pleasant. I am definitely going to attend again for next quarter. Thank you so much for your great teaching, I hope to see you very soon!”
