The 5 best speech pathologists in London for a personalised treatment

A friend of mine, who’s a mom of one happy kiddo, recently came to me with a concern. She noticed that her 3-year-old son stutters whenever he speaks and struggles to pronounce certain sounds, especially letters L, R, S, and T.

As a parent, I completely understood her concern. It’s very tough to see your child face challenges with something as important as communication.

So I offered to help her look for a speech pathologist who can help. Research is what I do best, and it was the least I could do for her.

With the help of my Wunderlust team, we looked into speech clinics across the city and put together a shortlist of London’s best speech pathologists—one we shared with her, and now with other parents who might be in the same boat.

How much does it cost to see a speech pathologist in London?

How we chose

  • Experience: We reviewed speech pathologists who have years of experience supporting and handling individuals with speech difficulties of any age.
  • Services Offered: We picked professionals who cater to different issues like speech delay, literacy difficulties, and phonological disorders.
  • Flexibility: We focused on speech and language therapists who offer online therapy, as well as home and school therapy sessions, for added convenience.
  • Additional Services: We chose those who can also assess, diagnose, and develop personalised treatment plans for individuals with speech difficulties.

Language Therapy London is a two-woman company offering speech support to anyone, regardless of age.

We love their services, which span from assessments to home and school therapy. This way, your kid can choose where they are more comfortable receiving the therapy, and there will be less pressure.

Aside from that, we also like that they offer one-on-one and small group therapy sessions. For us, it’s a plus since some individuals learn best on their own, and some benefit while interacting with others.

We also heard that their speech therapist, Roxy, is welcoming and playful. We appreciate it because kids will feel at ease around those who are friendly and warm to them. Therefore, learning is made easy and positive for them.

Another big thing we like? They let parents join the sessions, which lets you learn how to support your child with their communication.

Just one thing to note here: they’re not always available to entertain questions, especially via phone. They get back to their clients but not in a timely manner.

Pros

  • Years of experience in speech therapy
  • Trained and qualified speech therapists
  • Friendly and playful
  • Patient and supportive
  • Let parents join sessions
  • Caters to a wide range of communication difficulties
  • Allows one-on-one and group sessions
  • Open on Saturday

Cons

  • Very small team

  • Hard to reach via phone

Her approach is both thoughtful and effective, and it’s clear she’s deeply committed to helping her clients make real progress. Roxy has a natural ability to connect, making even the most complex goals feel achievable. Whether you’re looking for support with communication, speech, or language, you’re in excellent hands with her.”

SL Therapy stood out for its use of the Natural Language Acquisition (NLA) framework. Their techniques include modeling, child-led conversation, and play-based therapy, which we think poses less pressure to kids.

Aside from London, they also have an office in Kuwait and Essex. This speaks to how committed they are to supporting individuals with speech concerns.

For work-from-home moms, good news because they have online speech and language therapy. This interactive virtual session is helpful for kids who prefer this mode of learning and is a great option for busy parents.

Most parents also noted that they are satisfied with the team’s accurate assessment and reporting on their children. For us, it’s important so you can quickly identify which intervention or support they need. This can save time and money.

Downside? You might find it hard to find an available therapist due to their small workforce. Likewise, you can’t schedule a consultation promptly as they can get in demand.

Pros

  • Trained and qualified speech therapists
  • Specialised services for autism and Down syndrome
  • Has offices in Kuwait and Essex
  • Offers an interactive virtual session
  • Supportive and positive speech therapists
  • Holds sessions at home, school, and clinic
  • Quick and accurate assessment and diagnosis
  • Wide list of services offered

Cons

  • A limited number of speech therapists
  • Scheduling a consultation can be tricky
  • Gets very busy

Thorough and informative

“Can’t recommend Sarah enough. She just “got” my son from the get-go. Her report was thorough, informative and is now helping my son get the support he needs to access his education. Don’t even second guess engaging Sarah’s professional services, you won’t be disappointed.”

-Ms. Annette McManamon, Google Review

Rigorous and compassionate

“Sarah Lyons assessed my son’s speech therapy needs by going into his school, spending time with him and writing a detailed and very useful report. She was perceptive, rigorous and compassionate in her approach, and the report was hugely helpful in ensuring my son receives the right support at secondary school.”

Operating Hours: Monday – Friday: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (except Wednesday)

London Speech and Feeding is owned and operated by Sonja McGeachie. She has 28 years of experience in helping children and babies with speech, language, and developmental delay.

Sonja only takes a handful of clients, which makes it hard to book a service with her. But we think that this would do good since she wants to focus on one child at a time for more effective learning.

What we like about Sonja is that she also offers feeding support. She helps kids who are having a hard time eating or sipping. There are only a few therapists who offer this kind of service.

Parents also appreciate Sonja’s effort in preparing homework. This homework helps parents and children work together. For us, it’s very strategic and beneficial for parents to see the areas where they can fully support their kids.

Many also praise Sonja’s therapy room, which features an endless supply of toys and fun equipment. This is a plus for us because kids will surely enjoy their sessions with such a creative environment.

Pros

  • Years of experience in speech and feeding therapy
  • Focused on one student at a time
  • Friendly and supportive
  • Creative therapy room
  • Strategic approach in connecting kids and their parents

Cons

  • Only caters to kids and babies
  • Takes a very limited number of clients

Engaging and fun

“Sonja was wonderful. She was so engaging and made it fun for my son. We achieved incredible results in just 10 weeks. Thank you, Sonja.”

-Mr. Simon Green, Google Review

Fantastic therapist

“Sonja is a fantastic therapist. She is very supportive and provides a holistic approach, far beyond regular sessions.  Her therapy room is great, and it comes with an endless supply of toys and really fun equipment.  Sonja is very creative and makes her sessions really enjoyable.”

Talk With Us Speech and Language Therapists LLP started helping kids in 2009. They only cater to children from 3 to 18 years old.

Although they don’t cater to adults, they still have a nice list of services. They help kids with language delay, phonological difficulties, and stammering. They also do school and home visits for convenience, which we like.

Apart from that, we also appreciate that they have online therapy sessions. For us, it’s nice to have for accessibility and added convenience.

We also like that they liaise with caregivers, teachers, and learning support assistants connected to your kids. This way, they can collaboratively help and plan for activities beneficial for the child.

Their speech therapists, like Hannah, are also patient and compassionate, as said by a client. She also uses innovative techniques like prompting and conversational coaching. This is very helpful for kids on the autism spectrum.

They have a great team of speech therapists, but they’re very limited. This can affect their availability, so make sure to inquire right away.

  • Do home and school visits
  • Offers online therapy
  • Liaise with parents and caregivers

Cons

  • Doesn’t cater to adults

Naomi is an enthusiastic and experienced teacher, articulating the lessons very clearly – and always keeps things fun and engaging. I highly recommend their services!”

-Ms. Colleen Browne, Google Review

Very helpful

“We’ve been working with Orla for around 6 months now, and our nearly 3-year-old has come on leaps and bounds since! She has helped him improve in many areas, not just with his speech. She’s helped us with looking into an autism diagnosis, eye contact, pointing, copying, attention span and just brilliant advice in general. She’s so lovely, my toddler absolutely loves her! We can’t be more grateful, and I would recommend her highly! Thanks Orla”

-Ms. Maia Davies, Google Review

Patient and kind

“We are beyond grateful to Nihal! She has been instrumental in helping our son start talking. Her kindness, patience, and sense of humor make every session enjoyable, and our son absolutely loves working with her. The progress he has made is incredible-going from saying just one sound to forming proper sentences. Thank you, Nihal, for making such a positive difference in our son’s life.“
