I had no idea where to start when I decided to get a pet bird. Finding a shop that truly cares for its birds and offers the right guidance felt like searching for a hidden gem.
Did you know some parrots can live up to 80 years, becoming lifelong companions? That little fact made me realise how important it is to choose wisely.
As I visited different bird pet shops in London, it became clear that not all are created equal. Here are my top picks and what you can expect from each one.
How we chose the best bird pet shop in London
- Healthy and well-cared-for birds: We observed the birds by paying attention to their behaviour and physical condition. We also asked the staff about their feeding routines and any health checks they conducted.
- Wide variety of bird species: In each shop, we explored the variety of birds available and asked about the unique traits of different species. Shops that could explain the specific care needs of each species and offer guidance on choosing the right bird impressed us the most.
- Quality cages and supplies: We carefully observed the cleanliness and layout of the shop. A well-maintained environment with clean cages and fresh air was a strong indicator of how much the shop cared for its birds.
- Clean and bird-friendly environment: We visited each shop in person to assess its cleanliness. We looked at how often the cages were cleaned, whether the water and food dishes were fresh, and whether the shop had good ventilation.
- Ethical and Responsible Practices: We only considered shops that were transparent about their sourcing and treatment of birds. Establishments that focused on ethical practices and avoided overbreeding or harmful practices stood out to us.

Business hours:

London Bird Shop has an amazing range of bird supplies, and the staff are knowledgeable about their products.
The staff was friendly and took the time to explain which products, from food to toys, would work best for my bird. It really felt like they cared about helping me make the right choices.
London Bird Shop also had a great selection of cages, toys, and food, all designed with bird safety in mind.
The birds they had were healthy and active, which made me feel confident about their care.
The only downside is that the shop doesn’t stock a huge variety of bird species. Their cages are also only available for collection, not delivery.
Still, the friendly service and quality supplies make it worth the visit.
Huge range of bird supplies
“Huge range or bird supplies. At the time of visit there were a nice collection or small birds and a few parrots. Friendly service from the owner who provides good advice, especially for novices. There are other suppliers for chicken and wild birds. Plenty of bird seeds and toys with a huge range or cages too.”

This store has the nicest set-up
“In my opinion, the nicest bird store I have managed to find in the London area.
After spending several months researching bird pet stores, I have looked all the way from Enfield to Heathrow, and I can say that this store has the nicest set-up I have seen, in regards to taking care for the birds’ needs.
There are definitely stores that have more varieties, but they all have birds in overcrowded, tiny cages.
The people working in the shop can be a little abrupt, but I would rather have it like this, rather than the little con-men that will say just about anything so you buy buy buy their “stock”
5 stars for the conditions and care they give to their birds.”

2. Haaris’ Pet Centre

Address: Unit 9, Forest Industrial Park, Forest Rd, Hainult IG6 3HL

Haaris’ Pet Centre stands out as a bird specialist shop offering various birds, from tiny finches to large macaws.
I was impressed by the tame and friendly hand-reared birds they had. The staff was incredibly helpful, answering all my questions and giving great advice about bird care.
The shop had everything I needed, from well-made cages to bird-safe toys and high-quality food. Plus, the place was clean, and the birds looked happy and healthy.
The only downside is the location—it’s in the Forest Industrial Park in Hainault, which can be tricky to reach without a car, especially if you’re coming from central London.
They have many beautiful, colourful, and chatty birds
“My wife and I spent a lovely two hours talking to Haari and his colleagues, absorbing their enthusiasm, passion and knowledge. We enjoyed this special place surrounded by beautiful, colourful and chatty birds. Nothing was too much trouble and we were made to feel really welcome and at home. The birds, all hand reared, are real characters and the two we decided on in the end, have settled in with us really well, feeding, exploring, talking to the rest of our menagerie and appear really happy. This was a lovely experience for both of us and we would now never even consider going anywhere else if we wanted to buy another bird. We wish Haari every success going forward as his love and passion for the birds is obvious and a delight. With thanks from both of us.”

3. The Enfield Bird Centre

Address: Cattlegate Rd, Enfield EN2 9DS
Phone: +44 2083 679 223
Business hours:
- Mon-Sun: 8:00am – 4:00pm
What impressed me most about the Enfield Bird Centre is its focus on bird health and ethical practices. When I visited, the staff emphasised the importance of proper care for new and experienced bird owners.
They took the time to explain the significance of quarantining new birds and gave me detailed advice on creating a stress-free environment for my pet. This level of care and knowledge made me feel confident about their expertise.
The birds were well-socialised, and you could tell they were handled with patience and love. I also noticed that the staff prioritised responsible breeding practices, which was reassuring.
Just by seeing the way the centre’s staff handles the birds with care and respect, you can tell that they care about them. They also give customers detailed advice to make sure they can take care of the birds.
However, the shop could use more space. The narrow aisles and tightly packed stock sometimes made browsing hard, especially during busy times.
Stocks are generous
“Have homed a couple of budgies from this shop and absolutely loved each one. Most recent was a baby boy budgie for my mum who lost her female feathered companion of 11years. She absolutely adores him and he’s very friendly and tame! My male came from this shop 5 years ago and he is a character! We did buy a beautiful female from here but she passed away suddenly a few months later – not the fault of the shop, but she was absolutely beautiful and was so unbelievably tame! All of their stock are gorgeous, very well looked after and there is such a varied range of birds. We always love visiting to see the parrots and top up our supplies. Best bird shop around in my opinion.”

Impressive staff and collection
“Very impressive, with expert staff who are passionate about and care for the Birds in this bright spacious warehouse with everything you need, it’s just across the road from Crews Hill Station in Enfield/Herts which is a 20-30 minute journey from London Moorgate, We 100% recommended Enfield Bird Centre as Excellent.
There’s also other pet and garden stores here, plus restaurants and a Pub which makes a great family day out in the Country but so close to London.

4. Market Pets

Address: 45 Tooting High St
Phone: +442086729176
Business hours:
- Mon-Sat: 9:00am – 5:00pm
Market Pets stood out due to the personal touch of Graham and Tim, the shop’s long-time owners, who have over 60 years of combined experience in pet care.
Market Pets has earned a strong reputation for providing healthy and well-cared-for birds, reflecting their dedication to animal welfare and quality.
Their expert advice and friendly nature made it easy to ask questions about bird care and find the right products. So customers can shop confidently, knowing that each bird is selected and maintained with the utmost care.
While the shop doesn’t specialise in birds, they offer a small selection of popular species and various tailored seeds and treats.
Their birdcage stock is limited, so it’s wise to call ahead for specific items.
All the birds look healthy
“Great place where lovely people genuinely care about animals and know how to look after them. As a bird person I can’t comment on the fish and the little furry rascals they sell but their birds are healthy and the staff are happy to offer valuable advice and go the extra mile. Fantastic service, thank you.”
