The 5 best career counselling services in London that actually deliver

Finding the right career path is truly exciting but often overwhelming. But good career counselling can help align your skills, passions, and goals with opportunities that truly fit.

The challenge? Not every service delivers. Some offer quick chats without good direction, while others leave you more confused than when you started.

To help you trim down the process, we’re introducing the best career counselling services in London that actually deliver here.

These trusted pros don’t just talk the talk. They’ll guide you toward growth, clarity, and confidence in your next move.

How much does a career counselling service cost in London?

A career counselling service in London typically costs around £90 to £120 per session, depending on the coach’s experience, the length and format of the session, and whether they offer bundled packages or specialised coaching.

How we chose the best career counselling services in London

  • Quality of service: We opted for businesses that garnered positive comments about their coaching programmes. We did this by interviewing some of their former clients and reading online testimonials.
  • Communication: We looked for companies that reply to emails quickly, answer the phone in a few rings, and are easy to talk to.
  • Value for money: We searched for companies that offer highly effective coaching programs at a reasonable price.
  • Feedback: We opted for businesses with mentors who provide constructive criticism after every session.

Alice Stapleton is the ideal coach for those seeking to transition their career. Over the past 15 years, she has dedicated her time and efforts to helping professionals jump from one industry to another.

We were impressed by her extensive qualifications. She has a Master of Arts degree in mentoring practice, is a certified Firework career coach, and more!

When it comes to her coaching service, her 1:1 career change coaching follows a clear 12-session structured programme. Through exercises, it combines values and strength assessments with a well-thought-out action plan.

We also find her online career change course helpful for those who are busy. It’s a self-study online course that you can finish at your own pace.

The only drawback is that the introductory session—which acts as a consultation—isn’t free. It costs £45, which might not be considered affordable for some.

Pros

  • Over 15 years in business
  • Focuses on people changing careers
  • 1:1 career change coaching
  • Online career change course
  • Engaging, well-structured coaching programme
  • Extensive qualifications
  • Transparent pricing

Cons

  • Paid introductory session

Exactly what I needed

“Alice’s coaching programme was exactly what I needed at a pivotal time in my life. Through her thoughtful structure, powerful questions, and deeply empathetic approach, I gained a level of clarity and direction that I hadn’t been able to access alone. I now have a career path that feels genuinely aligned with who I am, and the confidence to follow it. Her sessions helped me reconnect with my values, challenge old assumptions, and gave me the courage to co-create a wellbeing initiative I deeply believe in. Alice also has an intuitive gift for knowing when you’re in doubt and when you’re lit up. I’d recommend her to anyone seeking more meaning, clarity, or direction in their career (and life).”

Good investment for your future

“I worked with Alice last year when I was going through a time where I felt stuck in my career and I had lost a lot of confidence, not only in my ability in the role I was in, but confidence in knowing myself (interests/strengths/weaknesses). I decided I needed some guidance and I am so glad I came across Alice, her programme is well thought out and really helps with lifting the lid and understanding what career options are a best fit for your personality and strengths. Although I haven’t made the leap to change my career yet, I know more about myself, what energises me and I know what my end goal is and I am now taking the necessary steps to get there. If I hadn’t invested in coaching with Alice, I definitely wouldn’t have the plan I have in place now. I really recommend anyone feeling stuck in their career to reach out to Alice, invest in your future!”

It’s impossible not to be amazed by Career Analysts’ over 60 years of experience. They’ve been in this industry since 1965! Their continuous success until this day is a strong testament to what they can do.

What sets them apart is that they have programmes for people of all ages. They offer career advice for teenagers in school, young professionals in their 20s, and people in their 30s who want to change careers.

They help people choose the right career by conducting a psychometric test. Paired with a 1:1 consultation, it offers a data-driven approach in planning your professional growth, which we found unique.

Many people we talked to also found the written report that Career Analysts provide invaluable. One client even said that he still keeps the 1995 report he received because it still resonates with him to this day.

However, their reliance on psychometrics might feel impersonal for those seeking human-centred coaching.

Pros

  • Over 60 years in business
  • Available daily
  • Career advice programmes for various life stages
  • Jobseeker support programmes
  • Psychometric assessment
  • Invaluable written report

Cons

  • Less human-centred approach

A kind of personal GPS for your career

“This a strange review because it connects Career Analysts (CA) today with their predecessors, Vocational Guidance Association (VGA). CA bought VGA a few decades ago and greatly developed the methodology and in particular the details of the service. At the age of 23, with no idea what to do, I used VGA and they helped me to find my way into Marketing Communications. This has served me very well for over 40 years. I studied what CA offers now and truly I don’t see anything else like it for Career Guidance. I think that for people in their 30s and 40s who are ‘stuck’ and want to change direction, this is the best way. We all use a GPS in the car to find our way around. Career Analysts is a kind of ‘personal GPS’ to help you find your true career direction. I hope all this helps.”

Got value for money

“I had been at a loss career-wise for some time after leaving a long-term position, and although I’d spent a year considering/exploring options I eventually realised I needed proper guidance in order to focus and have a sense of direction when it came to applying for things. One of my main aims for the session was to gain insight on career paths I hadn’t thought of which might suit my existing skills as well as me personally – I’m not the most confident of people so it had been very daunting trying to work out what on earth I might be good at if it was something new – and Career Analysts did not disappoint as they gave me several things to look into, with obvious careful thought having gone into making them relevant to me.”

If you’re a fresh university graduate, we highly recommend Graduate Coach. They’re focused on helping newly graduated students find entry-level graduate jobs.

What’s great is that they offer a free introductory session, allowing you to determine if they’re the right mentor for you. They will not just talk to you, but also to your parents.

Another great thing is their career guidance workshop. This one-day workshop is helpful if you want to formulate a quick yet well-thought-out career plan. This is available for a one-on-one or group session.

That said, they’re not for you if you’re already working, as they don’t offer programmes for professionals.

100% recommend

“Fantastic final result with my son starting a full time graduate role that he is very happy with and that he is finding stimulating and challenging. Equally importantly, on starting with Graduate Coach I saw an immediate change in my son’s confidence, enthusiasm and general wellbeing as he was given face to face guidance and encouragement on his CV preparation, interview technique and provided with valuable work experience via the digital internship. It is a difficult time for many graduates as they enter the job market and I am very grateful for the expert assistance that Chris and his team were able to provide. 100% recommend.”

Engaging, responsive, and professional

“Chris Davies and the graduate coach programme was recommended to me when my son was struggling to secure any graduate level job interviews, following multiple applications. Worried and frustrated we reached out to Chris for guidance and after a few short weeks of meeting up, my son had not only secured an interview but he was then offered the job. Chris gave him feedback and therefore confidence going into the interview which made a huge difference. I feel comfortable that Chris will not only support him as his career begins but will also continue to be an excellent mentor and advisor as he progresses into other roles. I can’t recommend Chris and the graduate programme enough, he has been engaging, responsive and professional throughout the entire process.”

DW Performance Consulting is the perfect company to consult if you’re finding it difficult to excel in job interviews. Dietmar, the company’s founder, focuses on helping individuals improve their interview skills.

He can help you through a 1:1 mock interview session. This session will help you improve your responses to basic interview questions and teach you how to handle unusual questions. What’s better than learning a new skill through actual practice, right?

We also love that he offers industry-focused interview coaching. He has over 20 years of finance experience before coaching. He can help you ace your interview if you’re applying for a job in the finance, banking, or insurance industry.

What we love the most, though, is his six-month-long mentoring programme. It allows clients to receive unlimited professional support even after securing a job, which helps them continue to improve.

That said, he doesn’t offer other programs outside of interview coaching, aside from the mentorship.

Pros

  • Available daily
  • Focuses on interview skills improvement
  • 1:1 mock interview session
  • Industry-focused interview coaching
  • Long-term mentoring programme

I’m very happy to have found him

“Dietmar is an excellent coach !!! From our first meeting, I felt a strong connection with him. He’s incredibly calm and kind, and he truly understands what you need. He helped me improve my communication and interview skills. What impressed me most is how much he genuinely cares about his clients, since he responds quickly to emails and asks thoughtful questions to assist you better. He thoroughly reviewed my CV and offered to answer all my follow-up questions via email after our session. I’m very happy to have found him and will definitely work with him again in the future.”

– Camila Cueto, Google Review

I’m feeling more equipped

“I have just started working with Dietmar and in this short time I already feel a huge difference in how I approach my career challenges. From day one, he has created a thoughtful, supportive space where I have felt heard and encouraged to think more strategically about my next steps. Dietmar brings a calm, grounded presence to our sessions, helping me stay focused on what I can control while building the confidence and clarity that I need to advocate for myself effectively. I am feeling more equipped to move forward with purpose. For women seeking career growth, we highly recommend CareerTree Coaching. CareerTree’s founder, Sarah, has been helping fellow women improve their skills to grab better opportunities for over a decade.

Her extensive coaching programmes are quite impressive. She can help you gain confidence in the career you choose, hone your leadership skills, and more!

Aside from the coaching programmes, she herself has extensive qualifications, which is what we usually look for in a mentor. She has written two books on career development and wellbeing and holds a Master of Science in career coaching.

The free introductory session is a huge plus. This way, you can gauge whether you’d like to avail of one of her programmes without spending money.

However, since she’s focused on helping women advance their careers, she doesn’t offer at least one program for men. So if you’re a male professional looking for help, it’s best to look elsewhere.

Pros

  • Over 15 years in business
  • Coaching programmes for women

  • Extensive qualifications
  • Free introductory session

Cons

Open, honest, and empowering

“Consulting with Sarah has enabled me to gain more clarity and focus about my career choices and has helped me to identify a direction for the future. I would recommend Sarah as a career coach because I found her approach to be open, honest and empowering. Communication and feedback was always of an excellent level and Sarah put me at my ease from the very beginning, meaning that we worked well together throughout all of the sessions. I am very pleased that I consulted Sarah at CareerTree to assist me to navigate a particularly challenging time in my career.”

– abigail simmons, Google Review

I am really grateful

“I would really recommend Sarah’s coaching and am so glad I went to see her. I wanted to change direction in my career and was worried I had got myself into a niche and wouldn’t be able to move into the area I wanted to work in. Sarah helped me review my experience and skills, understand what I did and didn’t want from a job, and gave me the confidence to move forward. After just three sessions Sarah encouraged me to apply for a job I would not have gone for otherwise, which I then got! In such a short amount of time she changed my perspective on applying for jobs and helped me find a new opportunity! I am really grateful to Sarah for her help and would definitely recommend her coaching service to anyone who is not sure what their next step should be!”
