Buckingham Gate has made their name as financial advisors in the city because of their proven track record and amazing customer service. We love their personal and professional approach toward clients.

This independent and award-winning firm is conveniently located in Central London, a short walk away from Charing Cross Station. They’re also easily reachable, based on our experience.

They offer a wide range of services and focus areas such as advanced estate planning, retirement planning and investment management. We like that they’re so versatile.

From what we’ve seen, they’ll assign you to one financial advisor so you can build rapport and for the advisor to study your situation carefully. They offer a lot of chances to meet so they’ll get to know more about you and your personal financial goals.

We find them very organised and meticulous from the start of the consultation until the end. They’re also very easy to talk to.

Their advice is often clear and concise. They make things simple to understand, which we really appreciate.

They’re composed of a pretty big team so if you need referrals, it’s easy to find an advisor who suits you best.

Although they have an online form, we find it easier and faster to just ring them instead for questions or when booking an initial consultation.

As for pricing, we find them in the middle range, with the initial consultation amounting to £197. So that’s something to take into account.

Overall, we think they’re a great firm and worthy of a mention on our list.

Pros

  • Big team
  • Personal approach
  • B Corp
  • Named Chartered Financial Planning Firm of the Year by the Personal Finance Society

Cons

  • Fees can be steep
  • Slow response when you use online form

First Wealth caught our eye because of their overwhelmingly positive feedback from clients. After trying them out ourselves, we were impressed.

For one, we love their innovative approach to giving financial advice. It’s certainly refreshing to meet with advisors who make it a point to develop a relationship with their clients.

They offer practical advice in an easy to understand way. They really guide you every step of the way.

You’ll never feel in the dark about things because they’ll give you frequent updates. Established in 2008, they have a proven track record as a financial planning firm and B Corp.

They were even named Chartered Financial Planning Firm of the Year by the Personal Finance Society, which is a great deal in this industry. This shows us that they follow strict standards when it comes to the quality and efficiency of their services.

They have vast experience helping retirees, entrepreneurs, and professionals. They can help with financial planning, financial coaching, and wealth management.

They have a huge team so it’s easy to find an advisor who can accommodate you.

One thing we noticed, however, is their prices can get steep. So if you’re on a tight budget, it might be best to check out other financial planning firms.

You can request a callback here by answering their online form. Although in our experience, it’s best to just call or email them for a quicker response.

Gale and Phillipson dates back to 1905, making them one of the oldest independent whole-of-market financial planning and investment management firms on this list. They have a proven track record in giving professional financial planning and wealth management services.

They offer a wide range of services aside from financial planning. They also offer a discretionary multi-asset investment management service and advisory investment management.

Aside from that, they also deal with mortgages, equity release, and corporations. They’re a one-stop shop for all kinds of financial advice.

They have a huge team of advisors with expertise in investment management, high net worth banking, actuarial, legal and wealth management backgrounds. Based on our experience, their advisors are great to work with because they really help you sort out your financial objectives.

They explain everything clearly and answer questions promptly. They’re very responsive.

They also handle your information and money really well from what we’ve seen. Their years of experience really show.

You have the option to avail of their one-off initial advice or go for a partnership service, depending on your situation. Either way, we like their structured processes and how organised they are starting from the initial consultation.

They offer complete documentation and reports all throughout the process so you’re always updated.

We noticed that they don’t have an online form to sign up for a consultation, however. It might be best to email them or call them directly to book an appointment or ask questions.

Their prices are also not upfront, you’ll have to contact them for a specific quotation.

Pros

  • Vast experience with different sets of clients
  • Responsive
  • Reasonable rates
  • Initial consultation is free

Cons

  • Limited info on website
  • Slower response to online form
  • Smaller team

Humboldt Financial caught our attention because they generally have great client feedback and they have a proven track record as a firm. After trying their services, we can see why they have built a solid reputation doing what they do.

They have vast experience giving financial advice and catering to different clients such as accountants, big tech employees, directors and executives, inheritance recipients, oil and gas employees, retirees, divorcees, and solicitors.

They can help with financial planning, portfolio management, property and mortgages, and final salary and benefits. They’re very meticulous and hands on based on what we’ve seen.

Although their team is significantly smaller compared to other firms, we like that they’re still very attentive and responsive.

We like that they’re approachable, friendly, and always accessible. It’s easy to feel comfortable around them.

We also find their rates reasonable and their pricing structure is clear-cut. Their first consultation is even administered for free, which we like.

They’re very transparent and you get assigned your own personal advisor who you will be coordinating with all throughout. So they’ll really master your case and get to know your goals and preferences.

We do wish they offered more information on their websites as it’s a bit hard to look over their services. We also noticed that they have a slower response on their online forms, so it might be best to just give them a call or shoot them an email for inquiries and appointment bookings.

FAQs About Financial Advisors in London

How much should meeting a financial advisor cost in the UK?

The price of a consultation with a financial advisor will depend on the firm you choose and the pricing structure they have. There are some who charge an hourly rate that will range from around £75-£350 an hour.

Some have set fees for a range of services and might cost around several thousand pounds. Ask the firm you’ve chosen about their pricing structure and possible payment plans.

Should I use a financial advisor or do it myself?

If you’re well-versed in finances, investing, and the current market, then having a financial advisor may not be necessary for you. It will also depend on your personal financial goals.

However, if you’re not confident in this area and need help understanding financial markets and where to invest your money, then hiring a personal financial advisor can be a good idea. They’ll explain and clarify financial matters and guide you toward wise and sound financial decisions.

How do I choose a financial advisor?

Choosing a financial advisor that’s best for you will depend on your goals. If you need specialised advice, then look for an advisor with a vast expertise in that specific area.

You can meet with several potential advisors to see if you can find one whom you have good rapport with and you feel can understand your goals and preferences.

You can even ask your family, friends, or even consult our list above for recommendations.

What is the difference between an accountant and a financial advisor?

An accountant is responsible for creating financial statements, auditing, and even financial forecasting. A financial advisor, on the other hand, deals with giving financial advice, wealth management, and retirement planning.
