How we chose
- Expertise – We prioritised tutors with proven expertise in their musical field, whether through formal qualifications, extensive performance experience, or a track record of successful teaching.
- Teaching style and approach – We sought out tutors who are passionate about sharing their knowledge and who tailor their teaching style to suit each student’s individual needs and goals.
- Value for money – We evaluated the fees charged by each tutor to ensure that they offer competitive rates while maintaining a high standard of teaching.
- Student reviews – We carefully considered feedback from past and current students to gauge the effectiveness of each tutor’s teaching methods and their ability to create a positive and inspiring learning environment.

Builds a strong connection with students
“John has been teaching my son the ukulele for almost 4 years. More recently he has made a very smooth transition into also playing the guitar. My priority for music lessons for my son, now 11, was that he enjoyed it and enjoyed being with his teacher. John has very much met both criteria and it is a credit to his connection with my son that he is always enthusiastic about going to his lessons and is diligent about his practice! We didn’t focus on exams or targets to begin with but recently this is something my son wanted to do. With John’s guidance and reassuring, well-balanced preparation he has faced his exams with equanimity and grace and has excelled at both Grade 1 and 2. He continues to work towards his grade 3. Highly professional, excellent communication, greatly recommended.”

Builds a strong foundation for beginners
“I spent the best part of a year having guitar lessons with John from London Music Tutors and I would thoroughly recommend beginning, continuing or developing your practical and theoretical music skills with them. John’s approach to teaching was professional and focused but I also particularly enjoyed that my lessons could be fun and relaxing, and intensely productive. I started with London Music Tutors as a relative beginner and now have much more confidence and ability in my playing styles, my theoretical knowledge, my singing, and my sound recording skills. Thanks!”

Piano and Strings Tutors London, co-founded in 2019 by Harry Nowakowski-Fox and Alisa Liubarskaya, has quickly made a name for itself with its unique approach to music education.
One of the things we love about them is their emphasis on performance opportunities. Their annual Christmas and summer concerts give students a chance to showcase their skills in front of an audience, which is a fantastic way to build confidence and gain valuable experience.
Another thing that stood out to us was their flexibility. Whether you prefer in-person lessons or need the convenience of online tuition, they’ve got you covered.
We also have to mention the free trial lessons they offer. It’s a fantastic opportunity for potential students to get a feel for their teaching style and see if it’s the right fit before committing.
However, we do wish they had more transparent pricing. Knowing the cost upfront would make the decision-making process a bit smoother.
Pros
- Emphasis on performance opportunities
- Flexibility in learning options
- Experienced founders
- Free trial lessons
Cons
- Lack of transparent pricing
Quickly identifies and nurtures a child’s level and ability to absorb
“We are absolutely delighted to have found Harry as a piano teacher for our 9-year old daughter and recommend him wholeheartedly! He has a fantastic passion for what he does and an incredible flair for understanding a child’s level and ability to absorb. The progress that our daughter has made in only a few months is unparalleled to other teachers we have had in the past. He has really helped her tap into her true potential – she now practises every day out of sheer passion and joy.”

Transmits infectious passion for piano
“From the first day Harry taught my children, I knew we had found the perfect teacher. His passion for his art transcends in each lesson and is simply infectious. Through him, my daughter’s love for the piano has grown. She gets ‘lost’ in her pieces, just practicing because of Harry’s infectious passion. My son is just about to do his grade one and when I think about how much they have both progressed, it is simply heartwarming. The children not only adore him but he has become more like a family member. They look forward to his lessons and cheekily try to extend their lessons with him. He is dedicated, professional and thorough. He goes the extra mile.”

Ceylan Rogers is a flautist and music tutor who’s truly made a mark with students of all levels, from absolute beginners to those gearing up for conservatoire auditions.
What impressed us about Ceylan is her personalised approach to teaching. She offers both in-person and online lessons, giving students the flexibility to choose what works best for them.
We also like that she offers a free initial consultation, which is a great way for students to get a feel for her teaching style before committing.
Plus, she provides thorough music theory lessons and preparation for graded exams to ensure that her students get a well-rounded musical education.
However, we do wish she offered online booking and was more transparent with her pricing. It would make the whole process a bit smoother for new students trying to get started.
Pros

- Personalised teaching approach
- Flexible learning options
- Free initial consultation
Cons
- Lack of online booking
- Lack of transparent pricing
Provides supportive and encouraging lessons
“Ceylan is a wonderful teacher who has been teaching my daughter (10 yrs old; Grade 5 flute) for approximately 9 months now. My daughter finds her to be very supportive and encouraging – she enjoys learning with Ceylan, and even practising for the next lesson! My daughter was already learning the flute in school before she started with Ceylan, but since making this change her progress has been fantastic – there have been huge improvements in her technique and skills and she has progressed through levels rapidly. Ceylan prepared her for orchestra auditions and for the ABRSM Grade exams, including recording digital submissions which we could not have done without her. She adjusts the lessons and music to both support my daughter’s goals (eg the auditions), and to introduce her to new music and styles and continuously stretch her development. In addition, Ceylan is very professional and reliable, while still being accommodating when we need to make adjustments to fit in other commitments. I am very glad we found her and strongly recommend her to anyone else looking for a flute teacher.”
Improves technical skills and tone quality
“Ceylan is a kind and patient teacher who is genuinely focused understanding her students needs and not just churning through exams but consistently improving technical skills and quality of tone whilst keeping lessons engaging and fun. She has really challenged our son to move out of his comfort zone (fast, energetic pieces) to work on slower, expressive pieces and really create a beautiful tone when he is playing. We are so thrilled with how much he has improved over the past year and our son honestly enjoys and looks forward to his lessons each week with Ceylan.”

Music Tree, led by the skilled educator Tiziana, immediately grabbed our attention since they cater to a wide audience, from infants to adults.
They also bring a creative twist to music education with techniques like body music, which is not just engaging but also supports neurological growth in young learners.
We were also pleased to see that their pricing is pretty reasonable – adult lessons start at £25, and if you’re just curious to try it out, they’ve got trial sessions for just £17.
We also appreciated how inclusive their team is. Some of their educators have ADHD or are on the autism spectrum. This personal insight creates a warm and understanding environment, particularly for families with children who have special needs or neurodiversity.
When it comes to reaching out, it’s a breeze – they’ve got a simple contact form that makes it easy to get in touch.

Instils a lasting love of music in students
“Thank you Tiziana and all the teachers for giving our two boys such a love of music which I hope they will continue for many years. Last week S played superbly on a grand piano at the riverside terrace at his school recital, it was a beautiful evening beside St Paul’s on the river. He was perfect and not nervous at all, I am sure this is due to the hours of support you have given him! D will take his grade 1 piano on Thursday. Robyn has him very well prepared, he is not nervous! It has been a true pleasure to see Music Tree grow and flourish over the years we have known you. We are very sad to leave Music Tree after 8 years. Wishing you every success for the future and I will of course continue to recommend parents to you.”

Manages to entertain a diverse group of children with ease and enthusiasm
“Tiziana and Ilaria are absolutely brilliant and both of our children have loved their Music Tree classes. They also came to our house for our daughter’s fourth birthday and threw her the most incredible Music Tree party. They enthralled a dozen children of various ages for an hour in our living. Even the parents were in awe. I couldn’t recommend them highly enough!”

Point Blank Music School really caught our attention with their impressive range of courses in music production, sound engineering, and songwriting. Whether you’re just starting out or already have some experience under your belt, there’s something here for everyone.
We were particularly impressed by their hands-on teaching style, where students get real-time guidance from industry pros.

Offers access to tutors with extensive industry experience
“I took the Music Production and Sound Engineering diploma at Point Blank and it was an incredible experience. I was lucky to land somewhere with such good electronic music credentials. I can’t speak highly enough of all the tutors, who had years of music industry experience and were inspiring as well as supportive. Also the tech staff who went to great lengths to help me out in the studio with my own projects. Like any experience you get out what you put in – and if you’re really driven to learn about electronic music production Point Blank pays back many times over – since leaving I have had a successful start in music thanks to their advice and encouragement.”

Lays strong foundations in music technology for future success
“I attended Point Blank Music School for 9 months and completed the Music Production & DJ Diploma. I had a fantastic experience both personally and musically and learned an incredible amount that I’ve been able to instantly apply to my career. Additionally, the knowledge I acquired will continue to help me achieve my goals in the near and distant future as I continue to build upon my new foundations in music technology. The school is in a great location and overall I would highly recommend it to musicians, whether they are just starting out or already active in the music industry and seeking new skills.”
