Nothing beats a launderette that’s just a short walk from a museum and public library, especially one that’s been in business for a whopping 20 years!

During our visit to St. John Street Launderette, we found it to be tidy and well-kept.

Their prices are on the lower end of the average. It starts at £3 for a small wash and £0.50 for 5 minutes in the dryer.

Additionally, they have staff on standby to help you out—check out the little doggo helper!

In our experience, the staff assisted us with the machine settings and helped us get coins. We weren’t the only ones who appreciated the service, either.

Customers we talked to also praised the staff. Some said the team even helped them load or fold their clothes!

However, a few people said that the place can be pretty busy in the afternoon, especially around closing time. At these times, the staff can be a bit in a rush or impersonal.

We also had an unfortunate experience wherein the machine did not undergo a full cycle, and our clothes were half clean! But the owner was kind enough to issue a quick refund.

As a whole, we’re happy with their DIY service.

Pros

  • Convenient location
  • Tidy place
  • Inexpensive
  • Helpful staff
  • 20+ years experience
  • Quick refund
  • Positive customer reviews

Cons

  • Busy
  • Complaints of service misses

Incredibly helpful!

The best service with affordable and fast washing and drying! Rita was incredibly helpful and kind. I had no cash so she started the machine for me while I went to the ATM and helped me with the settings based on what clothing I had…

Highly recommend!

Great place! I was expecting to self-serve but got so much help from the lovely shopkeeper and his 🐶. highly recommend this place!

Opening hours:

  • Monday to Sunday – 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM

Website

We like Green Laundrette & Dry Cleaning for having several machines to choose from—and advanced ones to boot. There’s also Wi-Fi, although it can sometimes conk out.

It also has affordable prices: £3 for a small load and £1 for 10 minutes in the dryer. Furthermore, there are card options if you don’t have cash.

We talked to the owner on our visit and he was quite helpful. In fact, one of the machines we used broke down, and he quickly gave us a refund.

But what we appreciated most about this launderette is that they’re open 7 days a week, making it convenient for us with busy schedules.

However, be mindful of your washing time, especially during busy periods. One of the customers there told us her clothes got lost and mixed up because she stepped out for a while.

Plus, unattended laundry will be charged extra.

Overall, we cannot find major faults with this service. We’re glad to know that the owner has been in the cleaning industry for over 36 years.

Pros

  • Inexpensive
  • Helpful staff
  • 36 years of experience
  • Quick refund
  • Open daily

Cons

  • Busy
  • Extra charges for unattended laundry
  • Spotty Wi-Fi

Owner was a lifesaver

This place is fantastic.  I highly recommend it. I walked in completely lost as to what to do and knowing there was only 20 minutes until closing. The owner was a lifesaver. He quickly helped me figure out which machine to use, how to use it..

Friendly neighbourhood laundrette

Great place to wash your clothes. It’s very cheap and they are very quick with the service. Also the owner Mr Khan is so professional and friendly. This is your friendly neighbourhood laundrette.

Address: 20 Linsey St.

Phone: 0208 090 9843

Opening hours:

  • Monday to Friday – 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM
  • Saturday – 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM
  • Sunday – 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Website

We’re happy to have found this gem of a shop. Linsey Laundry Launderette has modern services, a TV, and bright interiors instead of a dingy washroom.

It’s a cashless launderette, meaning you just pay using your card. They give you a token for the machines, which is so convenient!

We had a chat with some of the customers here, and they also love it for the efficient service, helpful staff, and well-maintained machines. We couldn’t get enough of their spanking new digital washers!

Plus, you can opt to pay additional money if you want the staff to finish the wash for you.

On the downside, their standard load is a medium-sized wash priced at £6. This means you pay more for a small batch. That said, we find this price point works well for households.

However, given the lovely time we had here, the price is just reasonable. Other customers agree with us too.

Pros

  • Best bang for your buck
  • Clean place
  • New machines
  • Cashless
  • Helpful staff
  • Open 7 days a week

Cons

  • Higher cost for small loads

Place was incredibly clean

Fantastic experience. Machines were easy, the place was incredibly clean. Staff were so helpful and kind that it made it a joy to do washing! This was especially great as a tourist still getting their head around London and just needed some clean clothes …

Highly recommend!

It was so lovely chatting with Abana. She was so friendly and helpful with using the washer and dryer. The machines are operated with token coins handed from the staff, then you can pay with a credit card. Very convenient, highly recommend getting your laundry done here!

Another hidden gem, Luxury Laundry London is your lovely neighbourhood launderette with new machines and amenities. It includes a TV, leather banquettes, and free Wi-Fi.

The location is great too, with a bus stop out front and cafes nearby.

We’re a bit cheery doing the laundry here because the interior is nothing but spotless. Plus, there’s not much of a crowd when we go here.

We also found the staff quite accommodating. We chatted with one of their customers who got a small tear on a blouse, which was repaired for free.

What’s more, the prices are just average. Their regular wash is at £7 and £1 for 5 minutes in the dryer. Just bring cash because their machines are coin-operated.

However, their full-service fees can be quite pricey. But good thing we’re on a do-it-yourself run!

All in all, it’s hard to find major faults with this launderette; that’s why we have them here.

.

Pros

  • Neat place
  • Amenities
  • Less crowded
  • Average prices
  • Helpful staff
  • Convenient location
  • Open 7 days a week

Cons

  • Pricey full-service options

Very kind and welcoming

Lovely! Nice gentleman was very kind and welcoming. You can swap notes for the required coins. So much better than the previous place. Will be doing laundry here from now on.

Really recommend!

Really recommend this laundrette. I had to wash duvets and pillows after my flat flooded this…Bring cash but they can exchange for pound coins for you. They also have a dry cleaners at the back.

5. King Dry Cleaning & Laundrette

king-dry-cleaning-laundrette

Address: 35 Church Rd

Phone: (020) 8201 5050

Website

We popped in at King Dry Cleaning & Laundrette with heaps of laundry, and we’re not disappointed. The coin-operated machines are easy to operate, and the staff readily lend a hand.

There’s free Wi-Fi and cable too, so you can say bye to boring chores.

Plus, the launderette has been in business for over 25 years, so they know washing like the back of their hand.

They also have a relaxed approach to unattended laundry. In our experience, we found our clothes deposited in a basket after we stepped out a bit for brunch.

This rather convenient service is probably the reason why their launderette prices are on the high end of the average.

On a side note, bring some cash with you because it’s the only payment option. We know it can be a bit of a bummer if you forget to bring some!

It’s the only thing iffy about this place. That said, you may find some customer complaints in online reviews, although it’s mostly for their dry cleaning services.

But fellow customers we interviewed were quite happy with the DIY service and so are we.

Pros

  • Relaxed approach to unattended laundry
  • 25 years of experience
  • Helpful staff
  • Amenities
  • Easy-to-operate machines
  • Neat place

Cons

  • Cash only
  • High end of average prices

Service is excellent!

I used the self-service launderette twice while visiting the area and had a great experience both times. The service is excellent: David was extremely friendly and professional, offering his assistance when I needed help with the machines

Helpful!

Very helpful Iranian gentleman inside who helped us very thoroughly, and the washing and drying was not expensive either. Just a tip though, take your preferred washing liquid and fabric conditioner with you as if you forget you’ll have to buy some there.
