5 Best Furniture Movers in London to Handle the Heavy Lifting

I’ve spent far too long carefully choosing pieces in choice furniture stores to let a clumsy move undo all that effort. One scraped cabinet or chipped table leg is enough to ruin the mood.

That’s why finding the best furniture mover in London matters when narrow hallways and awkward staircases come into play. A good crew knows how to shift bulky pieces without battering your walls or your back.

Here are our picks of movers who’ll bring the right kit, padding and van space to keep everything properly protected.

How much does it cost to hire a furniture mover in London?

Furniture movers in London usually charge £40 to £150 per hour for smaller jobs. Many hourly services also have a three-hour minimum.

A mover with a van typically costs £40 to £70 per hour. Two movers usually cost £60 to £120 per hour, while three movers can reach £80 to £150 per hour.

For fixed-rate moves, a studio or one-bed flat often costs £300 to £700. A two-bed property is usually around £500 to £1,300.

Moving a three-bed house can cost £800 to £2,200. For homes with four bedrooms or more, expect roughly £1,500 to £3,000+.

How We Reviewed

  • Pricing and transparency: Clear quotes mean fewer nasty surprises. We favoured movers with upfront rates and no sneaky extras.
  • Equipment and handling: Good furniture deserves careful hands. We checked how well crews pad, strap, and load each piece.
  • Service versatility: Not every move is simply door to door. We looked for handy extras like packing, dismantling, and short-term storage.
  • Punctuality and support: Moving day’s stressful enough without chasing your crew. We rated responsive communication and reliable arrival times.

Address: Belvue Business Centre, UNIT 20 Belvue Rd, Northolt UB5 5QQ

Contact: +44 20 8050 3957 / +44 07429174890 / [email protected]

Hours: Monday-Saturday, 8 AM – 5 PM | Sunday, 9 AM – 5 PM

Top Men Removals London caught my eye for offering more than a basic load-and-go service. If you’ve got bulky furniture, they can also help with packing, dismantling and reassembly.

That’s handy when a wardrobe won’t behave on a narrow staircase or a bed frame needs taking apart first.

I also like that storage is available for moves where the dates don’t quite line up.

The overall setup feels practical for London flats, where space and access can be half the battle. Having several services under one roof can save you from juggling different companies.

The main catch is the payment policy. Top Men Removals requires the full balance seven days before your moving date, which may feel a bit rigid if your plans are still shifting.

Pros

  • Packing, dismantling and reassembly available
  • Short- and long-term storage options
  • Suitable for bulky furniture and awkward access
  • Multiple moving services under one roof

Cons

  • Full payment required 7 days prior

15-Minute Packing Miracle!

Simon and Matt were the best! It only took them 15 minutes to pack the contents of a 1-bed flat. They were very careful not to damage anything and came prepared to handle delicate mirrors and oddly shaped furniture. I will definitely use them for my next move and highly recommend them to anyone who’s looking for an efficient team!

Safe, Clean, and Perfectly Placed

I would highly recommend Topmen Removals. They were very friendly, professional and efficient at both ends of the process, making sure our furniture was wrapped and boxed safely and then checking with me for the position of the furniture when unpacking. They were quick, clean and very helpful. I’d be very happy using them again!

2. Modern Movers

Address: 616-618 Chigwell Road

Hours: Daily, 8 AM – 10 PM

Modern Movers stood out to me because they can handle more than just shifting furniture from A to B. Their end-of-tenancy cleaning add-on is especially handy when you’d rather not scrub skirting boards after hauling a sofa downstairs.

They also offer out-of-hours commercial moves, which makes sense for businesses that can’t afford much downtime.

Furniture dismantling and reassembly is available too, so awkward beds and wardrobes don’t have to become moving-day puzzles.

I also like that their setup feels flexible enough for both home and office moves around London. It’s the sort of practical service mix that can make a hectic move feel a bit more manageable.

The catch is with insurance. Self-packed belongings aren’t covered by Modern Movers’ goods-in-transit insurance, so fragile items may be better left to their packing team.

Pros

  • End-of-tenancy cleaning available
  • Offers out-of-hours commercial moves
  • Furniture dismantling and reassembly included
  • Suitable for both home and office moves
  • Open daily

Cons

  • Self-packed belongings aren’t covered by their goods-in-transit insurance

3 Locations, Zero Breaks, Total Lifesavers

Salim, Ali, Mimoun and Peter were amazing. They worked the whole day, without a break, moved and carried our stuff from 3 locations, dismantled and re-assembled furniture, and left us ready to go to bed on our first night in our new home. They worked incredibly hard and did a great job. So grateful!

Wardrobe Assembly Wizards

Maleek, Ali and Bashil provided exceptional service. They dismantled and reassembled two wardrobes across two hours, while also handling the loading and unloading of bags and other furniture efficiently. Hardworking, and reliable. They really came through.

I highly recommend modern Movers and will most definitely be using them again.

3. London Man And Van.net

Address: Suite 2.11 Central House, 1 Ballards Lane N3 1LQ

Contact: 0800 994 95 96 / [email protected]

Hours: Monday-Friday, 9 AM – 7 PM (weekends and public holidays can be arranged at additional charges)

London Man And Van.net caught my eye with its book-now, pay-later setup. You secure the date with a deposit, then settle the remaining balance once the move’s done.

I also like that they offer free video or in-person surveys before moving day. That gives them a chance to plan the job properly and spot more cost-effective ways to handle awkward furniture.

Packing services and materials are available too, which is handy if you’ve got pieces you’d rather not risk wrapping yourself.

Overall, the service feels flexible without making the booking process unnecessarily complicated.

The catch is that furniture dismantling or assembly needs to be agreed in writing beforehand. Weekend work, extra stops, upper-floor access and additional mileage may also push the final cost up.

Pros

  • Book-now, pay-later setup
  • Free video or in-person surveys
  • Packing services and materials available
  • Flexible planning for awkward furniture moves

Cons

  • Furniture dismantling or assembly must be agreed in writing
  • Weekend work, extra stops, upper-floor access, and added mileage may cost more

Didn’t Have to Lift a Single Finger!

First time using a proper moving company and I was blown away. Saeid and his colleague were punctual, super professional and very quick. I had opted for the furniture assembly as well, and they did amazing !! I didn’t have to lift a single finger. They really made the move super smooth. Thank you so so so much. Highly recommend them !!

Smooth Moves and Easy Storage

Saeid and his colleague from London Man + Van were super helpful in our move. The communication was good, and he was flexible with his arrival time and was quick and professional moving the heavy furniture and boxes. All was in good condition without any damage. They did a great job with the offloading into the storage unit too.

I would highly recommend!

4. MTC London Removals Company

Website

Address: 87 Devonshire Rd

Contact: 020 3811 8380 / [email protected]

Hours: Monday-Friday, 7 AM – 10 PM | Saturday-Sunday, 8 AM – 6 PM

MTC London Removals Company stood out to me for handling more than just the furniture. Their clearance service includes old electronics, which is handy when an office move doubles as a long-overdue clear-out.

They also offer office furniture installation, so desks and workstations don’t have to stay boxed up for ages. Remote video surveys make planning easier too, especially if you’d rather skip another pre-move appointment.

I like that the service covers both moving and the messy bits that usually follow afterwards. For busy London homes and workplaces, that can mean fewer separate companies to organise.

The catch is their Friday warning. MTC advises against Friday moves because bank-transfer delays may not be sorted until Monday and could lead to extra charges.

Pros

  • Handles furniture moves and electronics clearance
  • Offers office furniture installation
  • Remote video surveys available
  • Suitable for both home and office relocations

Cons

  • Advises against Friday moves due to possible bank-transfer delays

Right on Time and Super Careful

Had a fantastic experience with MTC Removals. The team turned up promptly at 9 am as agreed and were incredibly careful and efficient with moving all our boxes and large furniture to the new property. Will definitely be using again in the future.

Better Assembly Than the Original!

Very pleased with the removal service from MTC! They were quick, had the right tools to make moving as efficient and safe as possible. They dismantled some of my furniture too and reassembled it (better than I had put it together tbh). They were careful with my TV and furniture generally, and nothing of mine was broken or jostled too much as they had packed it tightly in the van.

Even their customer service leading up to the booking and removal day was good! Very responsive and communicative.

Would recommend!

5. Thames Removals and Storage Limited

Website

Address: 2 Stockholm Road

Contact: 020 7733 0000 / [email protected]

Hours: Monday-Friday, 8 AM – 6 PM

Thames Removals and Storage Limited gave me a bit more confidence thanks to its British Association of Removers membership and ISO 9001:2015 accreditation. If you’re moving pieces you’ve carefully collected over the years, that extra reassurance counts.

They can handle anything from a single furniture item to a full household move. Secure storage is available too, which is handy when your moving dates refuse to cooperate.

I also like that qualifying advance payments for UK domestic moves can be protected under the British Association of Removers scheme. That’s a useful safeguard when you’re paying before moving day.

The drawback is their cancellation policy. Cancelling or postponing 2–5 working days before the move can cost 60% of the total charge.

Pros

  • British Association of Removers member
  • ISO 9001:2015 accredited
  • Handles single-item and full household moves
  • Secure storage available
  • Qualifying advance payments may be protected under the BAR scheme

Cons

  • Cancelling or postponing 2–5 working days before the move can cost 60% of the total charge

Customer Care at Its Absolute Best

The staff in the office were patient and understanding about dates and checked up regularly. The quote was very competitive, and the two guys they sent, Oli and Henry, were friendly, punctual and professional. They made sure I was happy at every stage and took excellent care of my furniture. On arrival, they made sure I was happy with where they placed items and, at every stage, checked nothing had been forgotten.

The whole process was customer care at its very best, and I would recommend them if you want a smooth, hassle-free day when you are moving.

Huge Job Handled with Amazing Speed

An excellent service. Ali came to estimate, and we knew we were in safe hands. Clare kept us updated on everything. We had two different teams of men because of a lorry load of garden stuff and then a huge lorry for our furniture.  Both teams were so professional; the speed at which they worked was amazing. They were very friendly, polite and could not do enough for us.

Would highly recommend.
