Find home in the best assisted living facilities in London

A dining room setting where a group of elderly residents are enjoying a meal together

When Mum started needing extra help, I found myself feeling torn. How could I ensure she was safe and happy without taking away her independence?

Like many children, I wanted the best for her—a place where she could make new memories and still feel like herself.

Assisted living facilities in London offer much more than care; they provide a sense of belonging and dignity.

If you’re on this journey, know you’re not alone. Finding the right place means ensuring your loved one has the love and support they deserve every single day.

How much does it cost to stay at an assisted living facility in London?

How we chose the best assisted living facility in London

  • Safety and Security: We visited each assisted living facility to look at safety features to ensure that residents are always safe and looked for.
  • Quality of Care: We looked at how well each facility met each person’s needs by talking to workers and watching them do their daily work. This included personal help, meal preparation, and managing medications.
  • Specialities: We looked for facilities that provided services specific to elderly care, like memory care for people with dementia or specialised help for people with trouble moving around.
  • Location and Accessibility: We made sure that facilities were in friendly neighbourhoods that were easy for families to get to and close to services so that visits would be quick and fun.
  • Trust and Reputation: Family reviews and our own observation at each facility convinced us that they were reliable, caring, and committed to the residents’ well-being.

Southgate Beaumont Care Home stands out with its beautiful Grade II-listed building. It looks grand but feels welcoming and homely at the same time.

The home offers 24-hour nursing and dementia care, ensuring residents receive the right support at every stage of life.

When we visited, we noticed how personalised the assistance was. The staff takes the time to understand each resident’s needs, from help with daily activities like dressing and bathing to more complex medical support.

We also loved seeing the residents enjoying activities that were clearly planned with care and made their days more meaningful.

However, we noticed that the staff seemed a little stretched during busy times, which might affect how quickly they respond. Even so, they were friendly and kind, which made a good impression.

Pros

  • Beautiful historic building
  • Warm and homely atmosphere
  • Independent and nursing care options
  • Engaging resident activities

Cons

  • Staff stretched during busy times
  • Limited parking spaces

Excellent care and a pleasant place for family and friends to be

“If you are looking for a care home for a loved one this one is the one to visit.

I visited this care home several months ago for my mother, the reception & tour of the home was exceptional. The care & attention my mother receives is second to none, the carers are so happy in what they are doing & the care they offer is first class. The building is amazing, so clean & well looked after.

My mother has been happy since day one, always plenty to do during the day & the food you are spoilt for choice & great quality.

Thank you to everyone is the Southgate Care home.”

Caring end-of-life care with wonderful staff and food

My Nan was admitted to Southgate Beaumont a few weeks ago. My family and I have always been sceptical of care homes; however we cannot be more grateful and satisfied with the care, empathy and support the staff at Beaumont offered not only my Nan but to us as a family.

My Nan spent her last days in this home and we got to spend quality time with her without feeling rushed or as though we were in the way.

She had her last meal there and loved the lamb casserole, cooked by the amazing chefs who always took the time to check their residents are happy with their meals.

If anyone is considering placing their loved ones here you will not be disappointed. The grounds are stunning, staff are amazing and food was delicious.

Special thanks to Alina, Audrey, Beatrice and Zoe and all staff.”

Woodbury Manor Care Home stands out with its beautiful Victorian building and peaceful gardens. The setting is calm and welcoming, with four acres of greenery that residents can enjoy at leisure.

We loved the mix of history and comfort, especially how each of the 59 en-suite rooms is well-designed for privacy and ease.

The Cedars wing, which is dedicated to dementia care, was especially impressive. The staff seemed highly trained and compassionate, using memory activities and sensory therapies to engage residents in meaningful and personalised ways.

We also appreciated how the home encourages independence while offering help with daily tasks like eating and bathing, creating a balance that many of their residents said preserves dignity.

What impressed us most was the open visiting policy. It allows families to visit anytime, which makes it feel more like home.

However, the location might not be the easiest to get to for those relying on public transport.

Pros

  • Spacious, scenic gardens
  • Specialised dementia care
  • Open visiting policy
  • Private en-suite rooms

Cons

  • Limited public transport links
  • Smaller capacity for residents

A friendly and caring neighbourhood

“Attended the recent Woodbury Manor care home barbecue. We really enjoyed it, the atmosphere was warm and you could see the care/effort put in to make this experience special for the residents, family and friends. It felt like being part of a community. The staff are very caring, dedicated and attentive to the residents’ needs. Management, Valentine and Kemisha are very approachable and welcome constant feedback to keep this care home at a very high standard. They act quickly on feedback given. You can tell that they are kind and have compassion.

A place where the staff really cares

“If you want place where your loved one will really taken care of this is a great place. Careers do actually care which is rare these days!

I would give a 10star review if I could.

The Kensington Care Home stands out for its truly personalised care, from assisting with dressing to specialised medical support.

We found their wide range of services impressive. They offer nursing, dementia, and Parkinson’s care.

We especially liked the activities, such as music therapy and yoga. They keep residents active and happy, both mentally and physically.

The meals were another highlight. The chef talks to residents about their likes and dislikes to make sure everyone has food they enjoy and look forward to.

The only downside we noticed was the cost, which is higher than some other care homes and might not work for every budget. However, the level of care and attention provided makes it worth considering.

  • Personalised meal planning
  • Warm and caring staff
  • High-quality personalised care

Cons

  • Higher cost than average

Thank you.

Must visit this care home. Best place for elders with home environment.”

“The care home management is result-oriented and headed by an erudite registered manager, supported by highly professional staff and clinically efficient nurses and carers. The care home is well maintained, repairs are fixed within the shortest possible time. Relatives and residents are well looked after with good food and myriad social activities and music to indulge in. What else could any resident ask for?”

Peartree Care Home stands out for its personalised touch, encouraging residents to bring their own furniture and keepsakes to make their rooms feel like home. It’s such a thoughtful way to help residents settle in comfortably.

We were particularly impressed by the 24-hour live-in care, which offers round-the-clock support for those who need it most.

Many of the family of their residents also appreciated the personal care. From helping with dressing and bathing to preparing meals, the assistance they provide made many residents feel genuinely cared for.

We also appreciated their extra touches, like escorting residents to events and helping with shopping or housework. These small but important services make a big difference in making the place feel like home.

The sensory room and gym were also impressive. They allowed residents to relax or stay physically active, depending on their needs.

However, we did find that parking was quite limited, which could make visiting a bit tricky for families.

Hampstead Court Care Home stands out for its vibrant community focus, where residents build meaningful connections through shared activities and group events.

The staff helps with daily tasks like dressing, bathing, and mobility. Many of the residents we talked to said they felt really supported in their day-to-day lives because of the staff.

For those with medical conditions, we noticed the care was especially attentive and tailored. Their staff showed a clear understanding of residents’ needs, using training and techniques.

Their approach is supported by partnerships with associations like the Alzheimer’s Society, Dementia Friends, and Attend. This was mentioned during our visit and confirmed by the home’s emphasis on using these resources to enhance the care they provide.

The activities were our favourite part. Everything from music therapy to gardening is designed to keep residents active and happy.

The only thing we didn’t love was the cost, which is higher than some other options.

Pros

  • Strong community focus
  • Group and individual activities
  • Personalised en-suite rooms
  • Regular outings nearby

Cons

  • Higher-than-average cost
  • Limited parking availability

A beautifully maintained home with staff who are kind and helpful

“A beautiful care home where residents are cared for according to their unique needs. Every member of staff has a positive, happy way about them and they are attentive to residents’ needs throughout the day. Superbly run. I have enjoyed playing the piano for Hampstead Court over the last couple of years and I can see with my own eyes how comfortable residents are made to feel and how genuine the staff are.”

A friendly place to live with great amenities and great service

A really lovely and welcoming home for both residents and guests.  The staff are always so happy to help and the facilities and standards are first class:  it is a home away from home.  I was lucky enough to attend an Easter lunch in the private dining room for a friend of mine who is a resident at the home and we were treated to a 3 course meal to celebrate this special day.  Nothing is too much trouble for the staff and  the amenities and food are superb. Well done to the Hampstead Court Care Home team.”
