My mum’s prescriptions come with strict instructions from her pulmonologist, so I can’t exactly treat pharmacy runs like casual errands. I need somewhere that gets the details right without turning collection day into a whole London expedition.
A good chemist makes repeat prescriptions, medication queries, and health checks feel far less faffy. Even better if the staff can explain things clearly when a medicine name sounds like it belongs in a science exam.
That’s why I looked for the best pharmacy in London based on clinical support, speed, and everyday convenience. These are the places I’d trust when Mum’s medication schedule leaves very little room for mucking about.
How much do prescriptions/services cost in a pharmacy in London?
Standard NHS prescription charges in London follow fixed national rates. Private prescriptions and clinic services can cost more depending on the medicine and provider.
An NHS prescription costs £9.90 per item, so two items come to £19.80. A 3-month Prepayment Certificate costs £32.05, while a 12-month certificate is £114.50.
The 12-month Hormone Replacement Therapy Prepayment Certificate costs £19.80. Basic over-the-counter remedies, such as paracetamol, can often cost under £1.
Private prescriptions usually involve the cost of the medicine plus a dispensing fee. Prices vary between pharmacies.
How We Reviewed
- Clinical capabilities: We checked what each pharmacy can actually handle in-house. Extra points went to places with pharmacists or prescribers who can sort common health concerns without much faff.
- Prescription Efficiency: We looked at how smoothly NHS and private prescriptions are processed. Fast turnarounds and dependable repeat services scored well.
- Accessibility and hours: We considered location, transport links, and opening times. After all, collecting medicine shouldn’t feel like a cross-London mission.
- Specialised health services: We also checked for extras like travel vaccines, blood tests, and weight management. The more you can sort in one visit, the better.

Star Pharmacy & Clinic is the sort of place I’d appreciate when a prescription comes with more instructions than a flat-pack wardrobe.
On my visit, the pharmacist took time to explain the dosage properly and answered my questions without making me feel rushed.
Their Weight Management Mentorship programme also goes beyond simply handing over medication. It includes clinical assessments, tailored diet and exercise advice, regular check-ins, and ongoing treatment reviews.
They also offer NHS Pharmacy First support for eligible conditions, including sinusitis and uncomplicated urinary tract infections. That can save a trip to the GP when the problem is straightforward, and you meet the criteria.
The main drawback is the Monday-to-Friday schedule, as Star Pharmacy is closed all weekend. Some Pharmacy First prescriptions must also be collected in person, so delivery isn’t available for everything.
Saved Our Safari Vacation!
So thankful for the staff at Star Pharmacy! My husband and I stopped in London for a few days on our way from the US to South Africa, where we are going on safari. We both forgot our malaria pills!

Warwick Pharmacy is the sort of place I’d keep in mind when Mum’s prescription list starts looking longer than my weekly errands. It handles prescriptions, medication support, blood testing, vaccinations, and travel health services under one roof.
I also like that you can sort more than the usual pharmacy basics here. The blood-testing and travel clinic options make it handy when you’d rather not dash between several different appointments across London.
The pharmacy team can also help with medicine-related questions, which is reassuring when dosage instructions get a bit fiddly. Being in Pimlico makes it fairly convenient for anyone already passing through central London.
The main snag is the Sunday closure, so weekend collections need a little planning. If you realise you’re running low late on Saturday, there’s not much room for procrastination.

The clinical side is useful too, with Pharmacy First support for eligible issues like sinusitis, shingles, and impetigo. That can spare you an extra GP trip when the problem is straightforward.
I also like the mix of private and preventative services, including travel vaccinations, flu jabs, COVID-19 vaccinations, and hair-loss support. It makes Central Pharmacy feel more like a neighbourhood health stop than somewhere you only visit for tablets.
The main snag is Sunday closure, which isn’t ideal for last-minute weekend collections. If you’re prone to remembering prescriptions at the eleventh hour, Saturday becomes your deadline.

Tower Bridge Wellness Pharmacy feels more clinical than your average high-street chemist, which I rather like when health questions get a bit complicated.
Its Independent Prescribing Pharmacist can assess eligible concerns and prescribe treatment when appropriate.
The pharmacy also takes a functional-medicine approach, backed by a wide range of blood and hormone tests. That gives you more options if you want a broader health check rather than just popping in for a prescription.
A friend also tried their water-free ear microsuction and found it quick, comfortable, and effective. Their private sexual health clinic is another strong point, with confidential same-day screening and faster results available for certain tests.
The catch is the cancellation policy, as eligible service refunds still lose £40 to admin and bank charges. Weekend hours are shorter too, so timing needs a little more planning.
Incredible Weekend Care from Dr Kamal
I’ve come to the wellness pharmacy to buy a product that would help me with an infection. The personnel were extremely nice, making me get in contact with doctor kamal (even if it was Sunday and he was on his free day), who prescribed me a very effective antibiotic cream and also gave me some helpful tips on my asthma.
He also was thoughtful enough to see me on another day to check my condition without asking for anything.

Caledonian Pharmacy is a strong pick when prescriptions come with more monitoring than a fitness tracker. Its ADHD medication reviews can include blood pressure, weight, and heart-rate checks, with results sent to the prescribing GP or clinic the same day.
There’s plenty beyond dispensing too, including weight management, smoking and vaping cessation, and ear microsuction. That makes it handy if you’d rather sort several health jobs in one familiar place.
I especially like that the pharmacy handles these services with scheduled clinical reviews rather than a quick in-and-out approach. It feels practical for anyone managing ongoing treatment that needs regular checks.
The downsides are harder to ignore if your diary’s unpredictable. It’s closed all weekend, and cancelling or rescheduling within 24 hours can mean losing your consultation fee or deposit.
Found What Nobody Else Had
I was struggling to get certain medicine on my prescription last year, tried calling different pharmacies, they all said we haven’t had this for months, and then luckily I call Caledonian pharmacy and got welcomed with a cheerful voice: “Yes, we have it. Would you like to come? We are still open?”
I also like their messaging service, letting me know my prescription is ready, with opening times. I get great help on any extra health issues whenever I visit. So glad this pharmacy is here. Thank you, Neil and the wonderful team!!!!

The Best Local Pharmacist Around
This place is an absolute gem – the staff are friendly, helpful and ingratiating, and very knowledgeable; they’re timely with prescriptions, and the shop is well-stocked and sleek. Neil in particular is a hero, a proper local pharmacist who gets to know you, inspires great trust, and who does everything he can to accommodate (like when I suddenly realised I needed travel vaccinations at the last minute, and he squeezed me in that day!).
