Your heart deserves the best cardiologists in London

Image ideas: An image of a cardiologist consulting with a patient, reviewing heart scans or an ECG report in a clinic setting.

A few years ago, I sat in a cardiologist’s office with a close family member, watching their hands tighten around the chair. The doctor spoke in medical terms, but what we really needed was reassurance—someone who not only had the expertise but also took the time to listen.

That experience taught me that the right cardiologist isn’t just about credentials; it’s about trust, compassion, and confidence that you’re in the best hands.

In London, where options are endless, we’ve done the research to help you find a heart specialist who truly stands out in the city.

How much does a cardiologist consultation cost in London?

How we chose the best cardiologists in London

  • Medical expertise and qualifications: We considered each cardiologist’s hospital affiliations, ensuring they practice at reputable institutions known for excellence in cardiology.
  • Experience in specialised heart care: We assessed their experience through their work, medical conferences, and patient feedback.
  • Reputation and recommendations: We considered feedback from both patients and other medical professionals. This included speaking with General Practitioners (GP), checking NHS ratings, and reviewing hospital and clinic assessments.
  • Access to Advanced Treatments and Technology: We prioritised cardiologists who practice at clinics or hospitals equipped with the latest diagnostic tools, such as 3D echocardiography, MRI, and catheterisation labs.
  • Convenient Location and Accessibility: We prioritised clinics in central and well-connected areas of London. We considered appointment availability, waiting times, and facilities for long-term patient management.

Address: London Bridge Hosp, 27 Tooley St

Phone: +447919026984

Website

Dr Antonis Pavlidis stands out for his expertise in interventional cardiology and handling complex coronary conditions.

What I find most notable about him is his ability to combine technical skills with a patient-focused approach, ensuring treatments are precise and personalised.

Many of his patients also appreciate how thorough he is—he listens carefully, asks the right questions, and focuses on essential tests like ECGs and Holter monitors without pushing unnecessary procedures.

His way of explaining results makes a real difference, giving patients a clear understanding of their condition and what to do next.

However, not all insurance plans cover his full range of services, so it’s best to check in advance to avoid any surprises.

Pros

  • Highly experienced in complex cases
  • Uses advanced diagnostic tools
  • Excellent patient reputation
  • Multiple hospital locations

Cons

  • Limited insurance coverage

Very reassuring and skilled

“April 22 was taken into Woolwich hospital cathlab to see why I was having chest pain dr Patel was my consultant he was very polite and reassuring and what they they were going to do so during the procedure dr Patel said I had a full cto and he tried for a few hours but to no avail.I was taken back to the ward Dr Patel came to see me shortly afterwards reassured me and gave me to options either a by pass wasn’t to happy with that or a cardiologist from a London hospital would try and unblock the artery which was dr pavlidis this was now June 22 met dr pavlidis very reassuring went to theatre and he successfully unblocked it with dr Patel at his side cannot thank them both enough and all in the cath lab and on ward lucky we have these professionals and staff and our Nhs from John morris”

Avoided bypass with expertise

“I was reffered to Dr Pavlidis by our family cardialogist and I am so pleased that he did

The other consultants I met were insisting that I will require bypass surgery, I was not happy with that as I felt my condition was not that serious

Dr Pavlidis took time to study my condition and stents, he told me that with new technology even totally blocked artaries can be stented

I had the proceedure done by Dr Pavlidis at St Thomas’ Hospital and have now fully recovered and able to go about my normal life. I have appreciated his help and I would am to recommend him.”

2. Dr Oliver Guttmann

dr-oliver-guttmann

Address: Circus Rd

Phone: +44 20 7722 9346

Website

Dr Oliver Guttmann stands out not just for his expertise but for the way he explains complex heart conditions in a way that’s easy to grasp.

When I heard him speak at Topics in Infection 2022 from a recorded session available online, it was clear he had a deep understanding of general and interventional cardiology.

His experience covers everything from palpitations and high blood pressure to more advanced heart procedures like stenting and angioplasty.

As the clinical lead at Barts Heart Centre, he has worked on complex cases such as coronary stenting for high-risk patients and angioplasty for blocked arteries. This experience reinforces his skill in handling serious heart conditions.

What I find most impressive is his commitment to research and education. He regularly publishes studies on interventional cardiology and trains medical professionals, ensuring his patients receive care based on the latest advancements in cardiology.

His private consultations can be expensive, so cost may be something to consider.

Pros

  • Expert in chest pain and interventions
  • Uses advanced diagnostic tools
  • Clear and engaging communicator
  • Highly rated by patients
  • Active in research and education

Cons

  • Higher consultation fees

Outstanding Doctor

“Dr Guttmann is an outstanding doctor. He has been looking after me for a few years now folowing my episode of myocarditis. Even during the covid pandemic (while he was looking after covid intensive care patients) he stayed in touch regulalry to make sure I am well looked after. He is a highly regarded specialist and I am so glad that he is my doctor.”

Exceptional care and support

“The quality of care that I received from Dr Guttman and his team when I was admitted as an emergency following a cardiac arrest could not have been better. During what was a distressing and slightly bemusing situation (until that time I had no idea that I had a heart condition) they took time to put me at ease, explain fully what was happening and generally held my hand (on occasion physically as well as metaphorically). The surgical team were excellent, ensuring that even though they were dealing with a fairly difficult situation I never for one moment doubted that it would anything other than 100% successful. One week later I left hospital complete with a seriously sophisticated piece of kit (an ICD). Two and a bit months on and I continue to be supported and reassured by their care (after care?). I and my family will remain eternally grateful to St Barts.”

3. Dr Jonathan Behar

dr-jonathan-behar

Address: 68 Harley St

Phone: +44 20 3488 4042

Website

Dr Jonathan Behar is easily one of the most trusted names in cardiology, especially regarding heart rhythm issues.

My aunt has been under his care for more than 5 years, and after hearing her talk about how approachable and thorough her Doctor is, I wanted to learn more.

She couldn’t stop praising how he made her feel completely at ease, explaining her condition in a reassuring rather than intimidating way.

Curious, I spoke with a few other patients who’ve seen him, and they all said the same thing—he takes the time to listen, never rushes appointments, and genuinely makes people feel cared for.

However, due to high demand, securing an appointment may take some time.

Pros

  • Expert in arrhythmias and devices
  • Approachable and patient-focused
  • Skilled in diagnostics and procedures
  • Respected by patients and peers
  • Up to date with research

Cons

  • Longer wait times

Friendly and knowledgeable

“I had a phone consultation with Dr Behar in late October 2022, as a second follow-up consultation and after a heart scan, after originally going to

St Thomas’s A&E (the best, I think, thanks to several family experiences) because earlier this year I fainted while waiting at a bus-stop, seemingly without reason. I think he has a great manner: friendly and knowledgeable. As I now feel completely fine, I didn’t want to waste his time, but he nevertheless went through all the possible symptoms of possible causes; possible future treatments, etc. I think anyone being looked after him would be in safe hands, although he was rather scathing about complementary medicine. By the way, I’d love to see this country move to an insurance-based health system like those used across Europe. Germany, Austria and France seem to have excellent systems. Despite the skill and dedication of most of the medical staff, the NHS system is clearly ludicrously top-heavy with wasteful management. And in far too many cases NHS midwifery sounds grim.”

Reassuring treatment

“I had been feeling lethargic and was having breathing problems which I had just put down to old age but my daughter who is also a doctor insisted I go to A&E which I did I must add under duress. My blood pressure and pulse rate were apparently extremely dangerously low. As soon as my problem was diagnosed I was sent to ressus and then Dr Behar visited me on the Coronary care ward. He explained the need for a pacemaker to be fitted and within 2 hours I was undergoing surgery. Throughout the procedure (Under local anaesthetic) Dr Behar gave me a brief running commentary as to progress. My experience of the entire event could not possibly have been any better.”

4. Dr Oliver Segal

dr-oliver-segal

Address: 78 Harley Street

Phone: 020 3553 9370

Website

Dr Oliver Segal is a well-regarded cardiologist specialising in heart rhythm disorders.

I came across Dr Oliver Segal while looking into specialists for a friend dealing with heart rhythm issues. His expertise in procedures like arrhythmias, pacemakers, and catheter ablation made him stand out.

What I find most reassuring is his clear and straightforward approach—he explains conditions in a way that makes sense without overcomplicating things

His thorough diagnostic process ensures patients get the right treatment without unnecessary tests or procedures.

However, his focus is mainly on heart rhythm conditions, so those needing general cardiology care may want to look elsewhere.

Pros

  • Highly experienced in heart rhythm issues
  • Skilled in pacemakers and ablations
  • Explains things in a clear and simple way
  • Uses advanced diagnostic tools
  • Trusted by many patients

Cons

  • Limited to heart rhythm disorders

Professional and compassionate

“I highly recommend Dr. Segal for anyone in need of surgical care. Dr. Segal performed a successful surgery on me, and after nearly one year I couldn’t be more pleased with the results. His expertise, professionalism, and compassionate bedside manner were exceptional. I felt well-informed and supported throughout the entire process. I am grateful for his skill and care, and I believe that anyone under his care is in excellent hands 💗”

Exceeded my expectations

“When I suffered from first stage heart failure and was diagnosed with persistent atrial fibrillation, a Doctor friend of mine warned me of the danger of delaying having an ablation. I did a great deal of research to find the best Consultant Cardiologist Electrophysiologist and am so grateful to have found Dr Segal.

Every aspect of his care from the ablation procedure to the subsequent suport has been outstanding. Dr Segal has been careful to manage my expectations, but I am delighted to now be in sinus rhythm, have a healthy heart rate and to no longer suffer from heart failure.”

5. Dr Francesco Lo Monaco

Address: 69 Harley Street

Phone: +44 7904 594503

Website

Dr Francesco Lo Monaco is a well-regarded cardiologist with experience in diagnosing and treating a range of heart conditions.

What stands out to me is that his clinic offers major tests like ECGs and cardiac CT scans in a single session, saving patients time and reducing unnecessary back-and-forth visits.

His ability to explain conditions in a clear, practical way makes a real difference for those who might feel overwhelmed by medical details.

The option for same-day appointments is a big plus, especially for those dealing with urgent concerns.

However, private consultations and tests can be costly, so it’s worth considering the financial aspect before booking.

Pros

  • All tests done in one visit
  • Multiple clinic locations
  • Same-day appointments available
  • Highly rated for patient care

Cons

  • Private care is costly
  • Limited appointment availability

He is very dedicated and genuine

“I cannot recommend Dr. Lo Monaco enough! He is truly an amazing cardiologist and a compassionate professional. For months, I struggled with unexplained symptoms that left me anxious and unsure about my health. From the very first consultation, Dr. Lo Monaco made me feel heard and reassured. He took the time to carefully listen to my concerns, thoroughly explain every step of the diagnostic process, and answer all my questions.

Thanks to his expertise and dedication, he pinpointed the root cause of my worries and provided a clear plan of action. His ability to combine deep medical knowledge with genuine care is unmatched. I am now on the path to better health and peace of mind, all thanks to Dr. Lo Monaco and his wonderful team.

If you’re looking for a cardiologist who truly goes above and beyond for his patients, look no further!

Patient and fantastic

“I’ve recently been visiting Dr Lo Monaco regarding longstanding issues I have had with my heart. For 15 years GPs have been rebuffing my concerns about palpitations and fast heart rates without referring me to a specialist in this area.

On the first appointment, Dr Lo Monaco put my mind at ease after a thorough echocardiagram. He also spotted the issue I had been getting symptoms for and after further investigation he has also been able to pinpoint the exact problem with a formal diagnosis and has provided a treatment plan.

Dr Lo Monaco is patient and fantastic at answering questions the questions that I have. His support staff are also very helpful and accommodating with appointments.

I now have better understanding on how to manage symptoms and feel more confident about the condition I have. I would highly recommend visiting Dr Lo Monaco if you have concerns or symptoms that are not getting rectified.”
