These 5 best drug and alcohol rehab centres in London can save your loved one from addiction

Watching someone you love battle addiction is heartbreaking. You want to help, but where do you start?

In a city as big as London, finding the right rehab centre can be overwhelming.

The good news? You don’t have to navigate this alone. Whether your loved one is struggling with alcohol dependency or drug misuse, the right support can make all the difference.

I’ve handpicked the most reputable drug and alcohol rehab centres in London. These centres are known for their clinical excellence and compassionate, life-changing care.

This could be the turning point your loved one needs — and the hope you’ve been looking for.

How much do drug and alcohol rehab centres cost in London?

How I chose the best drug and alcohol rehab centres in London

  • Reputation: I opted for centres that receive praise from people for the way they help people change lives. I assessed this by the reviews they garnered online, and when possible, through interviews with former patients.
  • Range of services offered: I picked those that provide comprehensive services for either drug or alcohol abuse, such as various detox options, therapies, and more.
  • Confidentiality: I looked for the ones that value their patients’ private lives and ensure that all services they provide are discreet.
  • Empathetic staff: I selected centres with personnel who truly understand and feel their patients’ struggles, with some even having advisors who are former patients themselves.

1. Rehab 4 Addiction

Address: Astral House, 129 Middlesex St

Phone: +44 800 140 4690
Business hours: Available 24 hours

Website

Rehab 4 Addiction has been helping people struggling with alcohol and substance abuse for over a decade. Being in this industry for that long means they genuinely love helping people.

I really love their free referral service. If they believe they can’t provide your loved one with the best assistance, they will recommend another centre.

What’s even better is they’ll arrange your loved one’s transport to their suggested centre, removing the stress of doing it yourself.

When it comes to admission to their facilities, they’re very responsive. You can admit your loved one even at short notice, making them ideal for emergencies.

I also appreciate their 24-hour medical supervision of their patients. This ensures your loved one will have the care they need.

However, because they often refer people to third-party facilities across their network, service quality can occasionally vary depending on the partner centre.

Pros

  • 10+ years in business
  • 24-hour medical supervision
  • Four nutritious meals a day
  • Free referral service
  • Comprehensive range of services
  • Counselling and therapy sessions
  • Accepts patients at short notice
  • Arranges transport to rehab clinics

Cons

  • Inconsistent service quality

I have my life back again

“So a very nervous and scared me phoned to ask about the help they could give me to get off the booze. From that phone call to now I have had nothing but friendly, helpful and constructive advice and support from everyone I had the pleasure to talk to. I am now 22 weeks sober and feel fantastic. Each day is a new day and knowing they are only a call, text or email away if I need them has been so helpful in keeping me on track. I have my life back again and my family love it. I can’t thank them enough. If you’re reading this it means you are thinking of asking for help and I would highly recommend these lovely supportive people to set you in your way. Angela”

They were extremely understanding and helpful

“We contacted this service to help my cousin who was struggling with alcohol withdrawals. They were extremely understanding and helpful and organised immediate access for inpatient treatment and detox. We are very grateful to Oliver Gareth and Hannah for all their support in making this happen and for helping my cousin get back on his feet. From all of our family we are extremely grateful and a big thank you! We would highly recommend this service to anybody else in need. THANK YOU!”

I was impressed by Harbor London’s luxurious inpatient facilities. Instead of those sterile, cold-looking hospital rooms, your loved one could be admitted to one of their cosy-designed townhouses or modern apartments.

What stood out even more is their dedicated Arab-speaking team. They formed this team because they understand the difficulties Arab communities faced when availing of addiction treatments. I think this really shows their genuine effort to be inclusive.

Additionally, I appreciate their one client at a time approach. It’s an approach that I think suggests strong desire to save people from the struggle they’re facing with alcohol and drug addiction.

It’s also nice that this approach is combined with a whole-person care philosophy. This is a well-rounded treatment plan that focuses on treating all areas of your loved one’s life, not just their addiction.

That said, as a centre that practises a one-client-at-a-time approach, they don’t have group therapy sessions. Some might find these kinds of sessions beneficial, as they hear personal experiences from fellow patients.

Pros

  • 24-hour medical supervision
  • One client at a time approach
  • Whole person care approach
  • Whole person care approach
  • Has an Arab-speaking team
  • Has self-assessment tools
  • Impressive track record
  • Wide range of therapeutic techniques
  • Various inpatient facilities

Cons

  • No group therapy sessions

They want the best for patients

“I have known Paul Flynn for years. Paul runs a great ship and wants the best for clients and patients. He is very well connected in the world of private healthcare, he is driven by passion for recovery and support. Paul refers patients to other facilities, that he knows and trusts and doesn’t ‘hold them’ if he knows he cannot support. Paul is always free to take a call, speak about a problem and support. He’s well respected, kind, trustworthy and has a great team who I am always happy to work with”

A fantastic organisation

“This is a fantastic organisation with care and compassion at the very core of the services it delivers. Excellence and experience are keywords for this organisation where the client is at the very centre of everything they do.”

When it comes to longevity, it’s hard to beat CATCH Recovery. They’ve been in this industry for over four decades, so they bring a level of care and professional assistance that only comes with time.

Their wide service area is a plus for me. While based in Greater London, their services extend across the UK. This makes it easier for families outside the capital to access high-quality support.

The great thing is that your loved one can undergo an addiction screening for free. This makes them the perfect centre to consult if you want to know the severity of your family member’s substance use and get some advice about the appropriate treatment plan.

For admissions, they provide private and residential rehab accommodations for both drug and alcohol dependents. This is great as you have options to choose from depending on your family’s budget.

What I love most is their evidence-based addiction therapy. It’s nice because they mainly use treatments that have been proven effective through scientific research.

The only problem is that they’re not available 24/7. This means you can’t contact them by phone outside their business hours, making it a bit inconvenient during emergencies.

Pros

  • 40+ years in business
  • Operates throughout the UK
  • Free addiction screening
  • Whole person care approach
  • Online and in-person therapy sessions
  • Evidence-based addiction therapy
  • Private and residential rehab options
  • 28-day outpatient program

Cons

  • Not available 24/7

Very happy with my recovery sessions

“I contacted CATCH with a view to getting online support after a perod in rehab. They recommended recovery coaching and arranged for me to meet my coach in person as the first of 10 meetings. I continued the coaching on Zoom as I live in France. I was very happy with my 10 sessions and feel I am in a good place to continue my recovery.”

-Bev Brown, Google Review

The team were kind and informed

“I contacted CATCH Recovery seeking guidance and options to support a relative who was having a difficult time both with addiction and other mental health concerns. The team were incredibly kind and informed, they took the time to go through all the options with me and helped us plan how to approach the matter. Fortunately the person has now been receiving care from CATCH for several months and is doing really well. A big thank you to the wonderful team! I would highly recommend this service.”

One of the things I really appreciate about Detox Today is their focus on making help accessible. They provide free advice and guidance to people struggling with alcohol addiction, offering either alcohol detox or rehab advice.

I also appreciate their sobriety maintenance services. They provide continued therapy, support groups, and even allow patients to participate in alumni programs. I think this continued support is important in maintaining progress long after rehab.

Aside from sobriety maintenance services, they also provide sober coaching. Combined with maintenance services, this is a strong support service to prevent your loved one from relapsing into drinking alcohol.

Additionally, I like that they offer various alcohol detox options. You can opt for home, inpatient, or outpatient alcohol detox either for yourself or someone you care for.

They’re also the only centre on this list that does home Librium alcohol detox. Librium is well-known for effectively helping people who are at risk for or have alcohol withdrawal syndrome, and having the option to take it safely at home can make a big difference.

Although they’re available from Monday to Sunday, they’re not contactable 24/7. This could be a limitation if you’re looking for immediate support during off-hours.

Pros

  • Free advice and guidance
  • Sobriety maintenance services
  • Sober coaching
  • Residential and outpatient alcohol rehab
  • Various alcohol detox options
  • Online and in-person alcohol counselling
  • Home Librium alcohol detox

Cons

  • Not available 24/7

The staff were professionals

“When my friend became really unwell, we felt helpless and desperate to find a solution. Thankfully, I found James at Detox Today, an exceptional alcohol treatment service that provided the support and resources needed for my friend’s recovery. I am forever grateful for the positive impact they had on my friend’s life, not only did they get him sober within a day or two, they really helped me. It’s painful watching someone decline. The staff were understanding, empathetic and not judgmental. It was clear to me that the they genuinely cared about everyone’s journey. The staff were professionals in every sense of the word. Their guidance and support throughout my friend’s recovery journey is invaluable. They are always there to lend a helping hand. Colin is now 15 days sober and is starting to enjoy life. I can’t recommend them enough! If, like me, you need help for someone, please contact them, they know how to treat alcoholism.”

-Deborah Kenneday, Google Review

I feel extremely heard and comfortable

“James is not only an amazing pre detox companion.. He instantly made me feel heard and comfortable. My detox starts tomorrow. because of him I feel extremely heard and comfortable. A professional yet great guy to talk to. And very positive in general”

Rehab Guide really stood out for their transparency and honesty. They offer a free referral service and would not hesitate to suggest another centre if they believe their facilities aren’t the best fit for you or your family member’s needs.

What makes this even more valuable is that they have a wide network. They’re connected to numerous centres throughout the United Kingdom, giving them the flexibility to match each patient with the most suitable centre.

Most of their partners also offer flexible alcohol rehab therapy options. Some facilities can provide therapy sessions that last for a week to a year, depending on what the patient needs.

It’s also great that their advisors are former patients themselves. This allows them to share their personal and motivational recovery experience with strugglers.

I also appreciate their use of cognitive behavioural therapy. It’s a proven method that has helped many struggling with addiction change their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.

The only disadvantage they have is that they mainly focus on alcohol addiction. So, if you or someone you know struggles with substance abuse, they might not be the ideal centre to contact.

Pros

  • Free referral service
  • Works with numerous centres throughout the UK
  • Free alcohol rehab guidance
  • Free alcohol detox guidance
  • Advisors with personal addiction recovery experience
  • Cognitive behavioural therapy
  • Flexible treatment options

Cons

  • Mainly focuses on alcohol addiction

The service is absolutely amazing

“The service is absolutely amazing and I feel staff really take the time to understand your situation with your family member who is struggling with addiction issues. It never felt like it was too much for anyone to talk to me and go through and explain the support that was available for my brother. From the initial calls with Shannon and Catherine to the follow up calls, they were very supportive and reassuring. When you feel lost and don’t know which way to turn in order to help your loved one, both Shannon and Catherine helped talk us through step by step what to expect from the rehab programme they offered. I am forever grateful to this service for getting my brother the promt support he needed at the time and strongly recommend them.”

A huge thank you

“I was trying to find the right Rehab facility for a friend who was in crisis and received outstanding advice and help from Shannon. She is incredibly knowledgeable in this area and therefore hugely informative and supportive when we needed it most. She listened carefully to our situation and directed us towards what turned out to be the perfect facility for our friend and resulted in a very good start on the road to recovery. Shannon was so caring and attentive throughout and offered a first class service. A huge thank you to you Shannon. From Drina.”
