How We Picked the Best Veterinarians in London

  • Expertise: We looked into the credentials of the veterinarians to ensure we only feature the best practitioners. We checked their years of experience, efficiency, and skill in treating animals.
  • Accessibility: We included clinics that are always reachable and accessible. We looked into their online booking system, operating hours, and overall responsiveness to any queries or concerns to gauge their accessibility.
  • Professionalism: Aside from the excellence of the veterinarians, we also ensured that the ones we featured conduct consultations with utmost professionalism, friendliness, and helpfulness.
  • Client Satisfaction: We also asked previous clients about their overall experience. This is important because it gives us great insight into factors like efficiency, manners, and ease of process.

  • Modern equipment
  • On-site CT scanner available
  • Environmentally-friendly

Cons

  • Limited info on website (No prices available)
  • Slow response on online form

We appreciate how accessible The London Animal Hospital is. They’re open 24 hours a day and 7 days a week, making them a great option when you need immediate attention for emergency cases that will need critical care and hospitalisation.

They offer a wide range of services including consultation, vaccinations, neutering, and routine surgery. They’re composed of a small team of seasoned veterinarians that have extensive experience handling different cases.

Plus, we like how modern and cutting-edge the equipment here is. They even have an on-site CT scanner so you don’t have to be referred elsewhere should your pet need it.

The hospital even runs on solar power and uses recycled rainwater from the roof. They’re not just modern, they’re also eco-friendly.

Major insurance providers are accepted here but it’s still best to check in advance.

What we love about this place, however, is how empathetic and warm their staff are. They’re very easy to talk to and they’re very understanding.

We do wish that they offered more information on their website. Although they have an online form, we still found it better to just ring them to set an appointment or ask questions.

Pros

  • Thorough consultations
  • Huge team of vets and nurses with extensive experience
  • Can handle routine surgery
  • Personable staff

Cons

  • Outdated website
  • Might need to be referred to a bigger hospital for more intensive surgical cases

The London Veterinary Clinic has built a strong reputation as a clinic in London. After going there ourselves, it wasn’t difficult to see why.

For one, they’re very efficient. They have been providing preventative and immediate medical and surgical advice to pets for a long time now and their level of expertise is seen in how they handle patients.

Their staff are also very welcoming, personable, and professional. It’s easy to talk to them and they make sure to answer your questions.

During consultations, the veterinarians are unhurried and very thorough, from what we’ve seen. They’re very attentive to details.

They have a huge team of veterinarians and nurses who have years of experience and with different sets of expertise. Some handle behavioural problems while others specialise in internal and emergency medicine, and even corrective surgery.

Do know that although they offer routine surgery here, additional surgical expertise is provided by consultants from referral hospitals. It will vary from case to case.

Booking an appointment is best done on the phone, based on our experience. They have an online registration form but their website is a bit outdated.

Nevertheless, we still think they’re a great clinic to go to and worth a mention on this list.

  • Offers microchipping
  • Offers home visits
  • Intuitive booking process

Cons

  • Small team
  • Website is a bit outdated

Established in 2002, The Vet Whetstone has made its name as a reliable and efficient independent veterinary practice in North London. We checked them out ourselves and it was easy to see why they have an established and loyal clientele.

Their veterinarians have over 50 years of combined experience. They have been doing this for quite some time and their expertise is apparent in the way they handle intricate and complex cases with ease.

They have a smaller team of veterinarians, however, so that’s something to take into consideration. You may have to book your appointment in advance to ensure a prime slot.

They also offer a wide range of services. They do consultations, vaccinations, neutering, dental care, microchipping, home visits, parasite protection, in patient care, and even surgical care.

They also offer emergency care if needed. Their hotline (020 8368 9798) is open 24/7.

They’re very versatile based on what we’ve seen. They’re a one-stop shop for all of your pet’s needs.

Their staff are also always warm and friendly. They answer your questions the best they can and really help you feel at ease.

Booking an appointment is also a fast and intuitive process using their online form. We do wish their website is more updated to make it easier to look through their services.

Pros

  • Offers home service

Cons

  • Can’t handle intensive cases and surgery
  • Closed on weekends

If you’re looking for a veterinarian who offers home services, then this is the perfect place for you. If you have mobility issues or simply don’t have the time to go to a clinic yourself, you can enjoy quality veterinary services in the comforts of your own home.

They offer a wide range of services including the following:

  • Annual check-ups
  • Vaccinations
  • Diagnostic tests
  • Pet travel assistance
  • Dental checks
  • Worming and flea treatments
  • Diet management
  • Microchip
  • Minor procedures
  • Skin, eye, and ear problems

They even offer online consultations in some cases, which is a very convenient and quick option.

Due to the nature of the service, they are not able to handle major surgeries and cases that need immediate attention and intensive care. So that’s something to take into account.

This set-up is not for everyone. So if you’re looking for an actual clinic to go to, you can check out the other clinics on our list.

As for the staff, they’re amazing to work with. They’re reliable, responsive, and very easy to talk to.

Their online booking services take a while because you have to create an account in their system first. Once you are registered, however, everything is seamless and intuitive.

Pros

  • Financing plans available
  • You can do video consultations
  • In-house laboratory available
  • Approved member of the RCVS Practice Standards Scheme

Cons

  • Outdated website
  • Closed on Sundays

The moment you enter The Animal Clinic, you’ll be welcomed by their warm and friendly staff. The people here are very easy to talk to and they really help you feel more at ease.

As a clinic, they’re also an approved member of the RCVS Practice Standards Scheme. This is a voluntary initiative to accredit veterinary practices in the UK.

So you know that they follow strict standards with their processes and the quality of their service.

They’re composed of a big team of vets and nurses. Their veterinarians have extensive experience and are really good and passionate at what they do.

They can handle all-around preventative health care and check-ups. You can also ask them for help in preparing your pets for transit.

They also offer advanced surgery and medicine and can also do endoscopy, radiology, and ultrasound.

They even have an in-house laboratory which is great because you don’t need to be referred to a third-party service provider anymore. They also offer hospitalisation in case your pet needs it.

Everything you need is in one place, which we really appreciate. Plus, they also offer video consultations if needed.

Another thing we like about them is that they offer financing plans which makes intensive procedures more accessible.

We do wish their website is more updated, however. It’s a bit hard to look through their services online.

FAQs About Veterinarians in London

How much does a vet check up cost in the UK?

What do vets do if you can’t pay in the UK?

If you can’t afford the treatment for your pet, you can ask your vet if they have options for a more affordable payment plan. If not, you can also contact RSPCA or Blue Cross in case they can help you out.

How do I choose the right vet?

When choosing a vet, it’s important to look into their level of experience, efficiency, and bedside manner. A good vet will genuinely listen to you and run thorough tests on your pet.

They will also have empathy for your pet and make sure they’re comfortable all throughout. You can ask questions and ask for referrals so you can find a vet that’s a good fit.
