Strike a pose at the best self-portrait studios in London

Let’s be real, we’ve all taken a selfie in a bathroom with questionable lighting (or worse, used our pet as a makeshift tripod). But sometimes, you need a picture that screams “professional” not “party in the loo”.

Maybe you’re updating your LinkedIn profile, maybe you’re finally ditching that old Facebook pic from 2010, or maybe you just want to celebrate you in all your glory.

Whatever the reason, you’re in luck. London is overflowing with amazing self-portrait studios that are basically playgrounds for adults who love a good photo op. Trust us, your selfie game is about to get a serious upgrade.

How much do self-portrait studios charge in London?

Self-portrait studios in London charge an average amount of £75 per session. However, prices may vary based on the studio’s location, session length, and additional features like editing services or personalised photo books.

How we chose

  • Unique offerings – We looked for studios that go beyond just a basic photo booth. They should provide unique features, backdrops, or themes to make your self-portraits stand out.
  • Accessibility and convenience – We prioritised studios with convenient locations, flexible booking options, and long operating hours.
  • Price and packages – We evaluated the pricing models of each studio by looking for options that cater to different budgets and needs.
  • Customer reviews – We prioritised studios with consistently high ratings across platforms. We focused on feedback about the experience, value, and photo quality.

CHEEEZ has a special place in our hearts because it’s the first to bring the Korean-style self-photo studio concept to London. Whether you’re looking to capture solo shots, cosy couple photos, or lively group pictures, they’ve got you covered.

The best part? You can snap as many photos as you like during your session, and they send all those digital goodies straight to you.

We particularly like their Mozzarella package. For £80, you get an hour of photo-taking freedom: a quick 10-minute intro, 40 minutes of camera fun, and a chance to select images for print. Just note that printed copies cost an extra £5 per print.

Although their price point is higher compared to the average rate, we do think they make up for it with the inclusions they provide.

Their gift cards are also a thoughtful surprise for your loved ones, starting at £50. You can give someone the gift of creativity with a package that includes 5 minutes of intro, 20 minutes of snapping photos, and 2 photo prints to take home.

Another highlight? Their blog section is packed with tips and tricks to help you make the most of your photo session.

Pros

  • Easy online booking
  • Gift cards are available
  • Comprehensive packages
  • Korean-style studio
  • Digital convenience
  • Unlimited photos
  • Informative blog

Cons

  • Higher cost
  • Additional costs for prints

Offers a top-tier self-portrait experience in London

“This is by far the best photo booth studio I’ve been to in London (and I’ve been to most of them). The branding, interior and the photo quality is so good. We booked the longer 30 minute studio session and it was really fun. The photos came out great and I will definitely be going back with more friends in the future. Highly recommended for any special occasion or just to get a quick snap for some good memories with friends.”

Provides a clean, well-organised, and interactive venue

“I had an amazing experience at Cheez, located right in the heart of central London. It’s the perfect spot for both tourists and locals to create wonderful memories with family and friends. The staff were exceptionally friendly and attentive, adding to the overall positive vibe. The venue itself is clean, well-organised, and interactive. The booths are super easy to use, making the whole experience hassle-free. Plus, they offer disposable cameras so you can take home a tangible keepsake to cherish forever. I highly recommend Cheez for families, friends, and even pets. The studio prints are exceptional, with imagery so stunning you’ll want to frame it and display it proudly anywhere in your home.”

Candid stands out for its award-winning approach, having been recognized in the “Open Your Shop” competition. This recognition provided them with the support needed to establish their flagship studio near Portobello Road, making them a notable presence in the area.

Founded by sisters Aimee and Lily Barrett, the studio offers a refreshing twist on photography. They help clients capture their true selves in a professional yet relaxed environment.

What sets them apart is the variety of fun props they provide, like disco balls and cowboy hats, which add an extra layer of creativity to your session. Their studio is designed with a 90s-inspired bedroom vibe, adding a touch of nostalgia to the experience.

Their pricing is pretty competitive too, with packages like the “Comin’ in Hot!” available for £60. This includes a 15-minute shoot and a 5-minute introduction. It also comes with one polaroid print of your choice and 250 images (maximum limit) transferred to you on the same day.

If you want a bit more, their Shoot + Edit Combo offers a 20-minute shoot for £90. It includes one edit of your choice, in addition to all the perks of the first package.

Pros

  • Creative environment
  • Award-winning studio
  • Competitive pricing
  • Convenient online booking
  • Gift cards are available

Cons

  • Limited snaps per session

Delivers quick service with images ready within 30 minutes

“I had a great experience at Candid. I wanted images that I could use within social media marketing for my business. Photographers can be expensive and I didn’t think one was necessary for the photos I needed. I was quite happy being left to my own devices at Candid as this removes being camera shy. I was in and out and received my images within 30 minutes of my session ending. The images were ready to be used across my socials the same day. I would recommend – Dan Knott @dandoesmortgages.”

Creates lasting memories for visitors from around the world

“It was such a brilliant experience!!!! Aimee was great and so sweet and patient with the kids!!!!! They had loads of pictures which they took themselves and then the whole family.  I strongly recommend candid studios!!!! You can be yourselves and pose uninhibited which makes it so much fun!!! I’m sure the kids will remember Aimee and candid studios as the best experience in London when they go back to Peru. Pity Lily was abroad.  Congratulations Aimee!”

Operating hours:

  • Tuesday to Sunday – 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM

When we stepped into You Self-Portrait Studio, we were immediately impressed by the level of privacy they offer. You get the whole space to yourself, which means no awkward encounters or someone peeking over your shoulder as you pose.

We love how you can set the mood with adjustable lighting and your favourite tunes since it makes it feel more like a personal photo session than a typical studio experience.

The props available are a fun addition, with everything from playful hats to a fan for that glamorous hair-in-the-wind look. It’s a fantastic setup for experimenting with different poses and bringing out your inner model.

The sessions are also flexible. Their affordable 40-minute session for £65 gives you plenty of time to capture your perfect shot, while the £30 15-minute option is great for those on a tighter schedule. And the best part? You can snap as many photos as you like during your session.

The only catch is that all photos come out in black and white unless you opt for the colour add-on for £10, which is something to keep in mind if you prefer vibrant shots.

We’re also just a bit iffy about the lack of printing services, but the convenience of having everything delivered digitally does make up for it.

Pros

  • Online booking
  • Gift certificates are availble
  • Flexible session options
  • Complete privacy
  • Unlimited photos
  • Affordable pricing

Cons

  • Additional payment for coloured photos
  • No printing services

Simplifies booking and finding the location with excellent directions

“I loved everything about my experience with you self-portrait. It was super easy to book, super easy to find (thanks to the fab directions given on the website), I felt really comfortable and I love the photos I got. Think I took around 400!!! It was just me and my baby in for the photos and I think the privacy really helped us both to relax- I even managed to get some pictures of him feeding. It was honestly like the intimate photo booth where you get professional quality photos! Would love to come back with my older children!”

Explains the process simply for easy understanding and use

This was amazing! It’s all self-controlled with a clicker so that you’re just with yourself and your friends, and you can see in the pictures that it feels really natural. It’s clearly marked out where to look, where to to be within the final photo and even marked out where to place a fan for wind effects! You can see in the mirror what you look like, and overall it’s really stress-free and was explained really simply. You really can see afterwards however many hundreds of photos you took in the time. Will definitely look at in the future for cosplay photos before MCM or comiccon!”

Offers equipment and catering services as needed

“We did a corporate video shoot in their black out studio 3 and studio 4 last Friday. We booked the studio fairly last minute but the staff at the studio was very helpful all the way through. The parking right behind the studio was really convenient. They can provide equipment and catering if needed plus we had use of the kitchen with the coffee/tea making facilities. But most of all, all their staff was so helpful, they went above and beyond to help us with everything we needed even last minute, like equipment etc. and were very easy to communicate with. We’d definitely use this studio again.”

Provides assistance with small necessities and a cheerful atmosphere

“Our TV production company filmed at 69 Drops on several occasions. Nunzio the owner, was an absolute joy to deal with, friendly and extremely accommodating – our constantly shifting schedule made confirming dates tricky, but we were always kept informed of the bookings situation and everything possible was done to accommodate us on our desired dates. When our team were at the studio we were given the run of the place and there was always someone on hand to assist with any questions or provide the occasional safety pin, padded envelope, plaster or just a cheerful smile. The studios themselves  are roomy and can be flexibly used for a variety of set ups. If our shoots overran it was never a problem and the charges are very reasonable. The only slight issue is a lack of parking, though there are unloading areas. I would highly recommend 69 drops as a friendly, flexible studio space and would happily return for future productions.”

Studio 220 Brick Lane is a hidden gem for creatives who dream big but have to stick to a budget. This space is a fantastic find for anyone into film or photography, thanks to its modern and adaptable environment.

What really caught our attention was the impressive equipment lineup, including ARRI SkyPanels and Astera Titan Tubes. These tools ensure your photos and videos come out looking crisp and professional.

And for those looking to add a cinematic touch, the eMotimo motion capture rig is a game-changer. The equipment is usually reserved for major productions, so having access to it here is a pretty unique experience.

We also appreciated the variety of backdrops available. They have a 12-foot wide green screen and white Colorama, providing flexibility for different creative projects.

The studio’s affordability is also a big plus. With rates starting at £40 per hour, it offers great value for such a well-equipped space. Not to mention, they also keep the creative juices flowing with complimentary tea and coffee.

We also love how straightforward booking a spot is on their website. It makes planning a self-portrait shoot convenient and hassle-free.

Offers an incredible and tucked-away studio space

“Studio 220 is an incredible tucked away studio. Its a great space for any interviews, and in a very central and accessible location. It is based underground which makes sound recording really easy, and they have a good selection of kit already on location. They are incredibly accommodating to all requests and very flexible with timings. They have been a dream to work with and couldn’t recommend this space more. This will most definitely be my go to for any interview related projects.”
