Have the safety net you need with the best insurance companies in London

Okay, let’s be honest. Insurance isn’t exactly the most thrilling topic. It’s kind of like that awkward relative you see at family gatherings – necessary but not exactly the life of the party.

But hey, even in a city as exciting as London, things can go pear-shaped. So before you find yourself singing the insurance blues, let’s take a look at some of the best insurance companies in London. Who knows, you might even crack a smile while reading about coverage!

How much does insurance cost in London?

The cost of insurance in London typically ranges from £225 to £1,000 annually, depending on the type. For example, car insurance costs £1,000 annually, home insurance is around £225, while life insurance starts at £30 per month. The final cost may change depending on various factors like coverage, age, and property details.

How we chose

  • Industry recognition – We looked for insurance companies that have received recognition from industry experts and organisations for their performance and service.
  • Product offerings – We assessed the range and quality of insurance products offered by each company. We considered factors like coverage options, pricing, and flexibility.
  • Financial strength & stability – We analysed the financial strength and stability of each insurance company to ensure they have the resources to meet their obligations.
  • Customer reviews & ratings – We delved into customer reviews and ratings and paid close attention to feedback on factors such as customer service, claims handling, and overall satisfaction.

1. Cuvva

Location: The Old Sessions House, 23 Clerkenwell Grn, London EC1R 0NA, United Kingdom

Contact: 020 3828 7385

Operating hours: Open 24 hours

What we really love about Cuvva is how they’ve made short-term car insurance so simple and accessible. Whether you need coverage for just an hour or up to 28 days, Cuvva has you sorted.

This flexibility is especially great for younger drivers or anyone who doesn’t own a car but occasionally needs to get behind the wheel.

The whole process is a breeze through their user-friendly app. When we tried it out ourselves, getting insured was as easy as entering the car’s registration plate, snapping a few photos, and paying securely through Apple Pay or a debit card.

Cuvva’s integration of smart technology, like a licence scanner and instant notifications to remind you when your policy is ending, really makes the experience smooth.

What impressed us even more is how they go beyond the basics. Not only do they protect you while driving, but they also make sure the car owner’s no-claims bonus stays untouched—a feature you don’t often see with traditional insurers.

We appreciate their transparent approach to pricing – no hidden fees, deposits, or interest charges. You just pay an upfront cost based on factors like your age, location, and vehicle.

Additionally, we liked their 24/7 customer service. Whether it’s day or night, you can always reach out to them if you need help or have any questions.

Pros

  • 24/7 customer service
  • No-claims bonus protection
  • Transparent pricing
  • Flexible coverage
  • User-friendly app

Cons

  • A few reports of poor customer service

Simplifies the insurance process in just 2 minutes

“I didn’t expect that everything was so simple. I filled out the insurance data in 2 minutes. It’s not like other insurance companies. I’m very satisfied. Since is my second car that I don’t drive every day, I buy insurance only for the period when I need to participate in traffic. This way I saved a lot of money .I am very satisfied and recommend this car insurance company to others.”

Simplifies getting on the road with just a few minutes of setup

“Partnering with Cuvva on drive away insurance has been great for our dealership and most importantly the customers! We get asked all the time by customers for short term insurance and now that we’ve partnered with Cuvva I have a straightforward solution for them that does the job to get them on the road. They absolutely love it! On Cuvva’s app it only takes them a few mins to get insurance for a couple of hours at a great price to get their new car home with peace of mind.”

2. Konsileo Insurance

Operating hours: Open 24 hours

Konsileo really impressed us with how they integrate modern technology into their service while still keeping things personal and client-focused. It’s clear that they’ve put a lot of thought into making commercial insurance work better for businesses of all kinds.

One thing we particularly noticed is their proprietary broking platform. It’s designed to slash the administrative workload for brokers by up to 60%, freeing them up to really dive into understanding their clients’ needs.

Their “Riskube” system also stands out as a smart tool. It’s an online platform where clients can handle their insurance and risk management in one place, making the process much more streamlined.

Business owners we’ve spoken with, especially in sectors like hospitality, construction, and tech, have mentioned how much they value this feature.

What really sets Konsileo apart, though, is their unique “Teal philosophy”. Instead of sticking to a traditional corporate structure, they empower their brokers to operate independently, encouraging creativity and a stronger connection with clients.

The fact that they’ve won multiple Employer of the Year awards at the British Insurance Awards shows that this approach is working well.

Pros

  • Innovative technology
  • Personalised service
  • “Riskube” system
  • Teal philosophy
  • Sector versatility
  • Ease of contact

Cons

  • A few reports of poor customer service

Offers multiple quote options without rushing customers

“Graham was amazing when sorting my business insurance recently! He’s really thorough, explains things in a way I understood and gave me a few options in terms of quotes. I didn’t feel rushed or pressured at all, and I’m so glad I had his expertise to lean on through the process (which was super easy and quick thanks to Graham). What I value most about Graham is his honesty – if he can’t beat a price you might get, he’ll tell you! Would highly recommend and wouldn’t go anywhere else if you’re a business in need of insurance! Thanks again Graham.”

Ensures fast and efficient claim resolution

“Fantastic service! Steve Marrs has been great, always there if I have a question even on his weekend away camping! I also had to claim after an accident I had. Steve helped me in this difficult time and my claim was sorted fast with his support and guidance. I wouldn’t go anywhere else for my business insurance. Easy and efficient!! Highly recommend!”

Operating hours:

What we really appreciate about Prima Insurance is how they’ve managed to make insurance feel refreshingly simple and accessible. It’s no wonder they’ve quickly become one of London’s top insurance providers.

One thing we really liked is how they handle claims – quickly and with clear communication throughout the process. They’re not just focused on getting you back on the road but also on ensuring you’re taken care of in the meantime.

Prima’s focus on rewarding customer loyalty is evident in perks like multi-car and no-claims discounts and coverage for lost keys up to £1,500. They even provide a courtesy car while yours is being repaired, so you’re never left in a lurch.

Their partnerships with big names like RAC for breakdown cover and Auto Windscreens for fast glass repairs mean help is always close by, which we – and the customers we spoke to – found very reassuring.

Another aspect we appreciate is the solid backing they have from financial giants like Goldman Sachs and The Carlyle Group, which definitely boosts our confidence in their reliability.

Prima also offers a variety of coverage options, with car insurance starting at a competitive £200 per year. We love how transparent and easy-to-use their online portal is. You can manage your policy, file claims, and even renew your insurance with just a few clicks.

Pros

  • User-friendly online portal
  • Responsive support team
  • Efficient claims process
  • Solid financial backing
  • Strong partnerships
  • Competitive pricing
  • Rewarding loyalty

Cons

  • A few reports of long waits for replies

Connects customers to friendly and efficient representatives

“Excellent customer service  had to use their chat bot initially.  Then connected me to Ellie, who was extremely friendly and efficient. I needed to add business mileage to my policy, which she kindly quoted for. This was very reasonable so proceeded with adding this to the policy. This was completed in a matter of minutes. I would highly recommend this insurance company.”

Fiona Mears, Google Review

Assists with policy-related queries

“Only had my policy a couple of days ago, but saw a car im interested in buying and wanted to know how much extra it would be to insure. I initially tried to find a phone number and called a company called Prima, who advised me to search for Hello Prima. All I could find was live chat or email, and my heart sank a bit,  however,  Sophie answered promptly and it was all really efficient!”

4. Titan Insurance Services Limited

Location: 2 Woodlands Way, London SW15 2SX, United Kingdom

Contact: +44 20 7731 3700

Operating hours:

  • Monday to Friday – 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM

Website

What we really like about Titan Insurance is its ability to cater to such a wide range of industries with precision. With three decades under their belt, they’ve mastered the art of tailoring policies that fit businesses perfectly, whether you’re in construction, hospitality, or any other field.

They offer coverage for over 2,000 trades, catering to the various needs of different businesses.

Another thing that impressed us is how straightforward they make commercial insurance. Instead of the usual call centre runaround, you’re connected directly with insurance professionals who know their stuff and are ready to help.

We’ve also heard from customers that this personal approach extends to their claims process, where they’re there for you every step of the way.

One thing we were just a bit iffy about, though, is the lack of an online quote option. It would have been a nice addition to their already strong service lineup.

Pros

  • Coverage for over 2,000 different trades
  • Simplified insurance process
  • Reliable claims support
  • 30 years of experience
  • Personalised service

Cons

  • No online quote option

Finds the right insurer for self-build insurance policies

“Martyn provided a very professional service. In the first instance he took time to really understand my project requirements and then found the appropriate insurer that could provide me with a self-build insurance policy for an extension and renovation to my property, all at relatively short notice. I would recommend Titan Insurance Services for anyone who is carrying out a similar project!”

Christian Stone, Google Review

Ensures the right cover by thoroughly answering questions

“Martyn really helped us out when our current broker (SJL Insurance) really let us down.  Martyn went above and beyond to assist us in obtaining cover for our self build/conversion.  Nothing was too much trouble and he went at lengths to go through the cover that we required and answer my questions to ensure that our cover was right.  I only wish I had found Titan Insurance 2 years ago for our insurance and our warranty but if you are considering using Titan but are not sure,  then I think the 84 (to date)  5* Google reviews speak for themselves.”

5. Folgate Insurance Company Ltd

Operating hours:

  • Monday to Friday – 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Folgate Insurance Company Ltd caught our attention because of the way they’ve managed to blend a rich history dating back to 1887 with some seriously innovative underwriting practices.

Now under the ownership of Hadron Specialty Insurance Co., Folgate has kept its deep-rooted traditions alive while also stepping up its game in the modern insurance market.

They’re known to be the go-to choice for businesses that need comprehensive coverage for property, general liability, and professional liability. They focus on catering to the specific needs of managing general underwriters (MGUs), offering flexible capacity and reinsurance services.

However, we have to admit that we’d love to see more in terms of online tools – whether it’s for getting quotes, booking services, or managing policies.

On the bright side, they do keep their clients well-informed with up-to-date news, which we think is a nice touch.

Pros

  • Innovation under new ownership
  • Rich history and expertise
  • Comprehensive coverage
  • Personalised service
  • Up-to-date news

Cons

  • Limited online tools

Delivers friendly yet professional service consistently

“We have dealt with Folgate Insurance for over 5 years and the platform provided gives access to a full suite of quote and buy insurance products and is very easy to use. The staff are always friendly whilst remaining professional and tend to go the extra mile. Very recently we needed to place a Property Owners risk with various referrals on cover after the Friday 5.00pm witching hour and through our account executive and a member of the underwriting team they assisted me to get the case over the line and on cover!! Well done Folgate keep it going….”

John Sullivan, Google Review

“Been working with Folgate for about 15 months.  Been really impressed by their service and how they look to support Brokers.  Special mention to Del Russell, who continues to check in on us to see how we are progressing with them and the support he gives us, when reviewing cases. As a result of their open approach to underwriting, we have been placing business with them and continue to do so. Happy to have them as a Business Partner and look forward to working with them going forward!”
