Pros
- Has a dual specialist accreditation in both general paediatrics and paediatric gastroenterology
- Wide range of specialisations
- Longer appointments than most doctors
- Daily hotline available
- Good bedside manner
Cons
- Outdated website
- No home visits
Dr. Andrew Sawczenko has over 30 years of experience as a paediatrician. He has a dual specialist accreditation in both general paediatrics and paediatric gastroenterology under his belt, making him one of the most sought after doctors in his field.
He’s also a member of the Royal College of Physicians and the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health. Aside from his solid credentials, he’s also amazing with children.
He’s reliable, understanding, empathetic, and so easy to talk to. He really takes the time to get to know his patients and their conditions.
He does general check ups for infants and children and also investigates and manages rare and complex conditions whether those are renal, gastro-intestinal, neurological, etc. He can also do vaccinations.
We noticed that he offers longer appointments than most doctors. He also has reasonable rates, based on what we’ve seen.
We do wish he had a more updated website and an online form for a more seamless booking process. He has a hotline that’s open everyday, however, so it might be best to reach out there.
Also, do know that you have to cancel appointments 2 days prior, otherwise, you’ll be charged the full price of the consultation.
He also doesn’t do home visits as of now, so if that’s what you’re looking for it might be best to check out other doctors on our list.

Pros
- Specialises general paediatrics, neonatology and breastfeeding
- Great for new parents
- Gentle and great with kids
- Easily accessible through phone
Cons
- Outdated website
- No online form
- Rates not upfront
Dr. Silvia Pierini is a fantastic general paediatric consultant with over 25 years of experience. After trying her services, it wasn’t hard to see why she’s made her name as a children’s doctor in London.
She has extensive experience working in hospitals and clinics both in the UK and in Italy. She specialises in general paediatrics, neonatology and breastfeeding.
She’s a great option especially for new parents. She does regular baby checks, monitors your child’s growth and wellbeing, and does routine follow ups.
She does in-person consultations, telephone consultations, and in some rare cases, even home visits.
We also like her calm, nurturing, and kind approach toward her patients. She’s so easy to talk to and is very empathetic toward worried parents.
She’s gentle, professional, and is really good with the children too. It’s very obvious that she’s passionate about her job.
Do know that despite her wide range of specialisations, urgent and emergency medical care is not within the scope of her services.
She doesn’t have an online form and her website is a bit outdated, from what we’ve seen. So it’s best to contact her secretary through a phone call to set a schedule with her.

He graduated from St. Thomas’ Medical School and has diverse experience in different hospitals in London and Sydney that spans different paediatric specialties.

His skills and extensive experience is apparent in the way he deals with his patients. He also has excellent bedside manner. He’s calm, gentle, and very easy to talk to.
He’s also very engaging and kids feel comfortable and at ease around him. We like that he takes on a holistic approach in treating his patients.
The clinic he’s in also has a huge team of other paediatricians and specialists, which is great in case you need referrals.

- Home visits and hotel visits available
- Ideal for travellers
- Special interest in osteopenia in children with neurodisability
Cons
- Rates not upfront

Dr. O’Connel is a consultant paediatrician with extensive experience and is one of the most respected doctors in his field. He specialises in paediatric neurodisability, rheumatology, respiratory, and rehabilitation medicine.
He graduated from University of London, Middlesex Hospital Medical in 1970. He then specialised in child health and anaesthesia at the Royal College of Surgeons.
He also achieved a Certificate of Specialist Training GMC TM (paediatrics). One of his special interests is osteopenia in children with neurodisability, so he’s a great option if this is something your child is struggling with.
He has multiple private paediatric clinics at Cromwell Hospital and the Parkside Hospital. He’s pretty accessible, based on what we’ve seen.
He even does home visits. For travellers, he can even do hotel visits if needed.
One of the things we like about him is how kind and gentle he treats kids. He’s very easy to communicate with, he explains everything so well.
We do wish his website was a bit more updated. It’s difficult to look through his services currently.
Rates for consultation are also not upfront. So that’s something to consider.
Plus, if you do need to cancel an appointment, make sure to do so 48 hours prior to the schedule. Otherwise, you will have to pay a cancellation fee.

Pros
- Specialises in immunology and childhood infection
- Passionate about holistic and family-centred care
- Huge team of doctors and specialists
- Wide range of services
- Easy booking process overall
Cons
- Purely in-clinic consultations, don’t offer online options or home visits
- Slower response on online form
Dr. Cohen is passionate about holistic and family-centred care and it shows. After trying out his services, we weren’t surprised why he built such a strong reputation as a paediatrician in the city.
He studied medicine at Cambridge and Oxford Universities. He then trained in several London hospitals to specialise in paediatrics.
After that, he spent 8 years developing his practice as a consultant in general paediatrics and paediatric infectious diseases in UCLH. He served there as a divisional clinical director.
Since 2021, however, he has been working as a consultant in Paediatric Immunology & Infectious Diseases at Evelina London Children’s Hospital. As you can see, he specialises in immunology and childhood infection.
He actually has an MSc in clinical paediatrics and a PhD for his research on vaccines for pneumonia.
Aside from his extensive experience and solid credentials, we like him as a doctor because he’s professional, warm, and friendly. Going to the paediatrician can be hard as a worried parent and he really helps soothe your worries.
He’s excellent at working with kids. His gentle and effective manner must be why he has an established and loyal patient base.
The clinic he’s part of has a large team of other paediatricians and specialists with different areas of expertise. So should you need additional attention, it’s easy to be referred to someone who can help.
To be specific, they can handle cases like:
- Newborn care
- Immunisations
- Routine checks
- Childhood ailments and infections
- Specialist investigations and referrals
- Child development services
- Bladder and bowel dysfunction
We find the clinic efficient and everyone there is professional. We do find it easier to call for an appointment compared to using their online form.
Otherwise, booking an appointment is pretty easy, from what we can tell.
Do know that they just have in-person consultations. So if you’re looking for online consultations or home visits, you can check out the other paediatricians on our list.
FAQs About Paediatricians in London
Yes, a self-referral is possible if you want to see a paediatrician. You can make an appointment directly.
It can be either through self-referral or through your GP. Both are okay.
Based on the NHS Constitution, if your GP refers you for something that doesn’t require immediate attention, you have the right to start treatment within 18 weeks from when you were referred.
A child may be referred to a paediatrician when the GP wants a specialist opinion about their overall health, development, and growth and if the GP thinks the child needs specialised care.
Green flags in a paediatrician would be solid credentials, efficient practice, affordable rates, and convenient location of office. However, it would still depend on your personal needs.
You should find a paediatrician with a specialisation that matches your needs.
