We found the best toy stores in London for kids (and kids at heart!)

To infinity and beyond! Okay, maybe not that far, but London’s toy stores are definitely a journey to a world of wonder. Forget Woody and Buzz; you’re about to meet the real stars of playtime.

Whether you’re searching for the perfect present or just fancy a nostalgic browse, London’s toy scene has something for everyone.

From traditional teddy bear shops to quirky independent stores bursting with unique finds, we’re about to take a whirlwind tour of the places that will reignite your imagination and bring out your inner child.

How We Chose

1. Hamleys

hamleys

Location: Various locations in London (Regent Street,  Westfield White City, St. Pancras and London Bridge)

Contact: [email protected]

Website

Hamleys truly lives up to its title as the “finest toy shop in the world”—and we felt that magic from the moment we walked in.

Founded way back in 1760, this place doesn’t just sell toys. It’s an adventure across seven floors, each brimming with something unique for every age and taste.

From Lego and Barbie worlds to rare Harry Potter finds, there’s this contagious energy that keeps you exploring.

The staff often brings the toys to life, with demonstrations of everything from bubble machines to Hamleys’ magic pens. This creates an atmosphere where you can’t help but join in the fun.

And if you’re craving an extra-special experience, their VIP tour adds a personal touch that’s pretty hard to beat. We also noticed some fantastic online tools, like the “Gift Finder,” for narrowing down the perfect gift.

However, there have been a few reports of rude customer service.

Pros

  • Immersive shopping experience
  • Variety of products
  • Exclusive VIP tour
  • Family-friendly events
  • Online shopping perks

Cons

  • A few reports of rude customer service

Transforms shopping into an unforgettable adventure

“Hamleys is a magical experience for kids and adults alike. With seven floors of toys, games, and activities, it’s a vibrant, fun-filled store that brings out everyone’s inner child. Staff are enthusiastic, often putting on toy demonstrations that add to the excitement. The selection is incredible, from classic toys to the latest trends, and the lively atmosphere makes every visit unforgettable. Hamleys isn’t just a store, it’s an adventure that captures the imagination at every turn. If you’re in London, it’s a must-visit for a playful, joyful experience.”

Welcomes visitors with interactive entertainment upon entry

“Goes without saying an absolute dream for the kids. But the entertainment as you walk in was very good and interactive. The demonstrators were courteous and patient, not too pushy. The atmosphere is always incredible with the buzz of excitement. My lad definitely added to that. And took away a massive nerf gun that was on a great 70% off offer. Keep an eye out for great deals and have fun!!”

Benjamin Pollock’s Toyshop is a rare find in London – a delightful step back to the Victorian era. Since its beginnings in 1856, this cosy Covent Garden gem has been bringing classic toys to life.

Walking in, it’s like discovering a secret world. There’s everything from handcrafted toy theatres and shadow boxes to puppets and music boxes.

Pollock’s attention to detail makes their pieces stand out. Each one feels like a work of art, often inspired by timeless tales like Hamlet or Cinderella.

We loved browsing their collection of artist-designed items made with a touch of nostalgia that draws in kids and adults alike.

Talking with other shoppers, we heard a lot of love for their online store too. It includes free UK delivery on orders over £60 – a nice bonus!

However, a few customers did mention some hiccups with discounts not being applied at checkout.

Pros

  • Unique and historic charm
  • Detailed and artistic selection
  • Appeals to all ages
  • Convenient online shopping

Cons

  • Discount issues

Captivates theatre and paper art lovers with its unique offerings

“I have always wanted to visit and finally made it on this trip to London from the US…Absolutely worth the visit. A unique toy shop, especially for those who love theatre and paper creations. I bought more than I planned to because I couldn’t resist! Many theatre kits are between £10 TO £30 with some higher priced items for theatrical devotees and lower priced items for those just looking for a curious card or souvenir. A couple of my purchases (a Vivaldi, Victorian style hand-crank music box and a wooden Commedia puppet theatre) already look right at home beneath my Christmas tree…If you love theatre and puppetry, this is definitely a shop to see. You won’t find any “typical” toys, but rather a collection of imaginative kits and creations meant to inspire creative minds.”

Provides a go-to spot for finding quirky gifts

“Very kind store operators you can ever come across in your life. I have visited the store twice and it was always during the time of closing. They always ensured to let me in though I didn’t intend to buy anything in particular. However, I can’t stop myself from visiting the store because it feels so magical to step in. I wish I knew the intricacies of puppeteers and the theatre world to enjoy the toys and other accessories they sell. But I’m sure I know where to go, if I need to get a unique and quirky gift for my thespian friends.”

QT Toys and Games has this warm, inviting vibe that instantly feels like a treasure hunt. Since 1983, they’ve made a name for themselves with an impressive mix of quality toys that put creativity and learning first.

We loved how their shelves were packed with everything from eco-friendly wooden toys and beloved brands. This includes Lego, Schleich, and timeless classics like chess and intricate puzzles.

It’s the kind of spot that draws locals and visitors alike, and we can see why.

For younger kids, their selection is especially sweet. There are Tonies audio characters, plush toys, and even travel-friendly “Birds to Spot” miniatures.

Delights visitors with an impressive and varied stock of toys

“This shop is a little gem hidden in South London. I was shocked at how much they had in stock, I wanted to buy everything! Obviously I was fascinated over the Beyblades which is one of my childhood obsessions. But I was mainly there to hunt for Pokémon cards, which they had in stock! Totally recommend it for anyone who is looking to buy some really cool toys at good prices! I am definitely visiting again soon.”

Impresses with well-stocked shelves of games

Absolutely brilliant. Shelves stocked high with games, science experiments, books and toys for active children. I was looking for a 12 year old and was very happy and it was clear they really have you covered for anything below this age. Would definitely recommend!

Pingo Pongo is a charming independent toy shop that opened in 2018 and focuses on quality and traditional play. From the moment we stepped inside, it was clear that each item is handpicked with love and care – no flashy electronics here.

Instead, they offer beautifully crafted wooden toys, engaging arts-and-crafts kits, and imaginative costumes that make playtime more meaningful.

We were drawn to their selection. We especially loved the puzzle collections and children’s books that blend seamlessly into a cosy home environment.

With over 90 high-quality brands and a friendly team ready to offer advice, Pingo Pongo feels both personal and welcoming. We even learned the store is named after the owner’s children, adding a sweet family touch.

Pros

  • Curated selection

  • Return policy issues

Ensures a memorable shopping experience

“I recently visited Pingo Pongo, and I have to say, it was incredible!  From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by an incredibly friendly and knowledgeable staff whom offered great recommendations based on my needs.  They were patient and genuinely passionate about helping me find the perfect gift.  The store is well organised, making it easy to browse and find exactly what you’re looking for without feeling overwhelmed.  Whether you’re looking educational toys or fun games, they have it all!  I will definitely be coming back to Pingo Pongo for future toy shopping, and I highly recommend them to anyone looking for high-quality toys and top-notch customer service!”

Encourages hours of entertainment

“Great selection of gifts that really help children’s development without resorting to a screen. Love the selection of problem solving toys and crafts and building choices. My daughter loves the dress up selection too. So nice to find a place that has something a bit different which keeps the kid entertained for hours on end and gets them thinking – best selection of learning through play toys under one roof.  Personal approach and knowledgeable staff- we will be back when we enter the next interest phase- thank you for all you do!”

We loved exploring their carefully chosen selection, from classic bath toys and boomerangs to musical instruments and puzzles. It’s a shop where you’ll find something for kids of every age and interest.

What really stood out to us was their party supplies section.

They don’t stop there too, they also have gift wrap and cards, so your presents are ready to go right out of the shop.

“They have a really beautiful selection of toys, arts and crafts and party supplies and are always so kind, thoughtful and helpful. They seem to genuinely enjoy interacting with customers and kids (even when the kids are stroppy or complaining!). We often nip in for something small and end up sticking around and browsing. Would love to see more wooden / sustainable toys down the line.”
